Can't select Afrikaans Locale for common names

Hi

I would like to see species names in the following order of preference:

1) Afrikaans

2) English (if Afrikaans is not available)

3) Scientific (if English is not available)

The overall site should remain in English. I just want to see the species names in Afrikaans.

Somebody suggested to me to select Afrikaans as the Locale under my Account Settings.

However, the option is not available. (The Afrikaans option is however available when adding a taxon names to a species.)

Can somebody maybe help me with this?

Henry,

I don't think your request is posible due to a convergence of issues.

• the list of options under the locale represents the list of languages into which the site has been translated. This is not yet complete for Afrikaans.
• if a translation is complete and you run the site in that languages, unless you specifically override it you will see the site, and common names (if entered in that language)
• translations can be entered for those languages into which the site is not yet translated such as Afrikaans or Swedish
• when that translation is entered, you can then select to edit it and add a "use in place setting". For example, if I add a Swedish translation, I can set it to be used in Sweden.
• Under your account settings is an option to prioritize names used in, which if I set to Sweden, meant I would see those translations
• that setting is based on places, not languages as it needs to support the fact different places use different names or spellings in the same language (Gray Catbird in the US versus Grey Catbird in Canada as an example)
• Obviously Afrikaans is a language, not a place. I guess South Africa has multiple official and used languages (I don't remember the exact number - 11 is in my head). 
• if you were to set the Afrikaans translations to be used in SA, then any user who wanted English names but ensuring they saw the South African spellings or variants would then see the Afrikaans.

I can do some tsting to see what happens if multiple translations are set to be used in a single place, but I'm not sure there is a way to manipulate it to guarantee one of those entries being seen.

Long story - I dont belive your wish can be met.
