Hello there,

I have a few bugs that have been hampering my use of iNaturalist:

Web:
- Quite often, when I enter a location under "Where were you" on a sighting and hit enter, the first find is way off. Then I hit enter again and it finds what I am looking for. For instance if I enter "Ojibway Park Windsor" and hit enter, it finds some location in Minnesota. If I hit enter again, it finds the Ojibway Park in Ontario, Canada.
- The lookup search for species seems inconsistent. If I put in "Birds" I get the higher-level taxa first, but if I put "Snails" I only get individual species.

Android App:
- Dates on sightings get reset to current date, no matter what I enter. I have yet to successfully log a sighting for a previous day on the Android app.

Let me know if you need any more info from me! Let me know if I am missing something?

Many thanks,
~Mark

Oh. And thank you for making a wonderful site. It really is quite excellent... I've found it very useful and I've been enjoying it despite these bugs I report!

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reports:

I'm pretty sure this is a problem with the Google Geocoder API and not something we can control. Oddly, I'm getting the Ontario result (see attached) but for all I know there's some weird localization going on in Google's Geocoder search results. In any case, we do have addressing the Location Search interface on the todo list so hopefully we can look into this in general then

- The lookup search for species seems inconsistent. If I put in "Birds" I get the higher-level taxa first, but if I put "Snails" I only get individual species.

I'm not seeing this (see attached)

Android App:
- Dates on sightings get reset to current date, no matter what I enter. I have yet to successfully log a sighting for a previous day on the Android app.

Thats a bad one - thanks for catching this. I made an issue to get it on the todo list:

Thanks Mark!

I suspect that this is the same bug as something I see all the time.  I reported it once before, but couldn't reliably repeat it or describe exactly what happens.  Using the web interface through FireFox, when I type something into the ID box or the Location box, then hit enter, the first search results that are shown sometimes are seemingly random.  If I hit enter again, then I get the results I would expect.

Hi Scott,

I think the fact that you didn't see "The lookup search for species seems inconsistent. If I put in "Birds" I get the higher-level taxa first, but if I put "Snails" I only get individual species." may be connected to the fact that you are not in Canada?

It seems to me that when I extended my search to "other locations", it worked properly.

Alas, the search seems to have changed and I don't think its issue anymore.

Thanks for your help!
~Mark
