Hey everyone! The team has provided me with an update and it looks like the 120hz option just isn't an option that's available to the Quest 3 in PCVR currently. They're looking to bring it in a future release, but I was not provided with any specifics. I'd recommend checking out this response if you'd like to use a workaround in the meantime.

I just picked up the OLED55-H1 and it looks amazing. Unfortunately, I've spent the entire evening trying to get this thing working at 120hz to no avail (I'm stuck at 30hz). I have an RTX 3060 on Windows 10. I did some research on the television before I bought it and thought that the December firmware update resolved this issue so I took the risk. Unfortunately doesn't seem to be working out for me.

Any of those final three steps results in my screen going insane (image). Turning the tv off and on, and then switching inputs has resolved the crazy-screen issue. Any advice on what I could to to enjoy this tv in all its 120hz glory?

EDIT: I chatted with Vizio lvl 2 support today and the individual I spoke with was incredibly helpful. We did some more troubleshooting and I'm not sure how, but trying HDMI 1 allowed me to successfully get to 60hz. I went back to HDMI 2 and was at that point able to once again achieve 60hz. Unfortunately, the tech wasn't able to help me get to 120hz and escalated this one level higher and said he'd reach back out. I'm concerned that this is simply a compatibility issue with RTX cards that hasn't been prioritized in their product roadmap.

**Solution:**Credit to Khrono2010 (comment) for the suggestion. After applying the setting for 120hz, I immediately unplugged the HDMI from my PC, and plugged it back in after a second. The screen appeared normally, and I was able to confirm the change before the dialogue box disappeared.

Okay Smazza, and fair enough. Here is an update.

I did get it to work, and it has continued to work.

However, the issue I now have is that the HDMI will fail (sort of). Basically, sometimes when I shut the t.v. off, when I turn it back on it won't see the device. I have to physically unplug the HDMI from the port and plug it back in.

Then I have open the menu, and re-do the 120hz settings which reset to defaults. It happens enough that it is annoying, but not smash the TV annoying.

But I have to say it's getting old.

Will try the firmware update and report back.

So that firmware update did nothing.

Upon getting up this morning and turning on the TV, I once again had to manually unplug the HDMI cable, plug it back in, and reset all the 120hz settings (turn on input signal plus, and turn game mode back on).

I know it's a first world problem, but Samsung: Fix your *****.

You'll need DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1 support. Considering the latter isn't really available yet on video cards, and DisplayPort on TVs isn't a common thing, you're likely more limited by the TV, and very likely out of luck overall. Also as noted the 120hz advertising is often a crock.

You answered you're own question...

I think instead of repeatedly telling OP that 120hz on cheaper Tv's is not really a thing maybe we tell him why are you trying to get a setup that isn't for game rendering then what content are you watching? Isn't the majority of digital TV aired as 30FPS? (never-mind he said not watching live TV) I have yet to see any blurays advertise that they do over 60fps... are they not 24p?

So... What is the point of having cheap 4k tvs at 120hz (if you can find a true one) if you have no actual content that is recorded or produced at 120FPS and then stuck on HDMI 1.4 even if you do media server streaming do you actually have any content over 30FPS I dare say I wager a light beer that you don't so you are not going to get much benefit aside from a motion engine.

Regardless of if you do or don't have content at 120FPS if you get a good TV that uses a Motion Engine at 100hz-240hz then you should see some very good more natural motion when watching television and movies.

Otherwise I am very confused by the question asked, seems more like the guy with a Honda getting a louder exhaust now claiming it also goes faster because it's louder.

I would personally buy 32"+ 1440/4k monitor and set them up on a stand, if it's not a big room then the viewing distance is perfect. This is what I did before I got a projector for that true Honda feeling (1080p content at 120" inches viewing)
Sure expensive as hell but it will be the only way to get true 60hz+ once you find filmed media that is higher than 30fps...

Neat trick! Get VLC open and run fraps, it will show you the constant FPS of the media viewing let me know if anything on your media server is above 30FPS

I no longer buy Tv's I have switched to Projectors for media viewing and flippen big 32"+ curved 144hz for my gaming rig.

Cheap Tv's are not future proofing, I do not know of American cheap TV's reliability but here in Australia, buying a TV with the same "market" specs but a quarter of a price of an LG or Samsung is just going to show that the TV will last if you're lucky 3 years before the PSU or one of the logic boards goes boom.
JB Hi Fi here has knock off brand TV's that are tempting had 2 each died after a year.

@nickmal8 had the best short answer and is straight to the point, If you really want what you are asking you HAVE to wait for HDMI 2.1 for Tv's that then have true 60hz + specs and a Xbox one X (microsoft added HDMI 2.1 and is as far as I am aware the only device that has HDMI 2.1 output) or wait for GPU that has HDMI 2.1 Tech.
I look forward to the 1 unhelpful clicker that is lurking in this thread.

The publisher has images of content at 30,60,120fps shown side by side with 60hz,120hz. It will hopefully convince you what you are looking for is not currently possible.

GOOD LUCK! :)

I'm working on simple 2d project, sprites run from top to bottom and on standard phones (60hz) everything look smooth, but on s20+ (exynos 990 version) with 120hz on, sprites start gently tug, jumps, loosing smoothness. when i turn off 120hz refresh rate, game work perfect. at first move was based on while loop with yield return new WaitForEndOfFrame(); and that was causing another problem. if it was based on frames whole move was 2x faster, and game was unplayable.so i decided to build movement on void Update(), and turn on vSync, that solve 2x speed problem but it doesn't help with smooth lose,

so my question is: Is there any possibility to do something with it? Can i somehow tell phone to turn off 120hz refresh for time when my app is running? or maybe there is some option in unity settings that i don't know about, which can solve my misery. I'm really on the edge of mental breakdown now.

18 inch 120hz monitor allows players to be more creative, not only can you experience smooth games, but 1080p 120hz monitor can also be used for work, design creation, movies, live broadcast, learning, etc. Give full play to the performance of mobile phones, laptops, and game consoles.

The Steam Deck Refresh Rate Expander, which can be downloaded from here, expands refresh rate options up to 70hz for the regular LCD model and up to 120hz for the BOE and SDC OLED models. Unfortunately, the mod hasn't been tested on models mounting a Samsung panel.
