Scanning support on Windows is provided via the Windows Image Acquisition Library v2.0, which requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later; the library comes standard with Windows Vista and 7. To install the WIA Library on Windows XP, copy the wiaaut.dll file to your System32 directory (usually located at C:\Windows\System32) and run from the command line:
WIA makes easy to application developers, device manufacturers, and scanner users who need to interact with imaging hardware. The API set exposes imaging applications to still image acquisition hardware functionality by providing support for:

Modern microscopes have many computer-controlled components that need towork in harmony for accurate data to be collected. Shutters and lightsources must be opened and closed with precise timing, synchronized withthe camera that takes the image; filter wheels must be positioned toallow only the desired wavelengths of light; XY and Z stages mustprecisely position the sample. Performing even simple data acquisitionsrequires many precise steps to be carried out.
You may sometimes find yourself with an excess of image windows thatcontain throwaway data. This button allows you to close allcurrently-open image windows. It will prompt you for whether you want toget a save prompt for each window containing unsaved data, or if youwould rather force all of them closed without further prompts.
Along the bottom of the window is a row of buttons. The precise buttonsavailable in an image window depend on whether it is an acquisitionwindow or the Snap/Live window. Snap/Live has these three specialbuttons:
When you have two image windows open, and they both have at least oneaxis in common (for example, they both have a Time axis), you can linkthat axis by clicking on the link button in one of the image windows:
My current assessment is that OME-ZARR using Zarr v2 is not a viable format for high performance acquisition using Windows or Windows based network storage. The problem with existing benchmarks I have seen is that most of them are not testing this specific scenario of image acquisition on Windows.
We publish as open source a high performance file writer library to storelarge images in the IMS format for high performance visualization and analysis. The library is capable of writing images at high speed. In just over 1 minuteit can write a...
"We have used LEADTOOLS Imaging Pro Developer Toolkit for more than 20 years. The library is working fast and reliable. For so many years we have experienced no major issues. And this is important as rendering and image processing is a core function of the Document Management system that we provide to our customers."
