If u want to translate or import an orcad layout file to cadence SPB.16/allegro tools, there is a hotfix available with the cadence software package, if not check with the cadence local tech support.
Make sure you are running the latest version of Download Manager (available where you access the hotfixes on support.cadence.com. Also check the settings of Download Manager, I set mine up to look every week for updates.
Hi Steve I am running the latest release of download manager it recognizes CIS but doesnt recognise Orcad in fact i downloaded the latest CIS using download manager on Saturday 7th march 2020 but today monday 9 March 2020 have to download orcad 17.4 hotfix 4 by going into the cadence software website
That doesn't make sense since CIS is the same download for PCB Editor - called Cadence OrCAD and Allegro 17.4-2019. Try uninstalling Download Manager then reinstall as mentioned above. If this doesn't help you may need to talk to Cadence Online Support or your Channel Partner.
I clicked "Yes" to launch Capture using lite license.I thought orcad capture will get well when license server recover.but it didn't.after that,capture enter lite version every time.I tried to fix this problem.
Something that you might check is that you only have one, or the "correct", network adapter enabled. There have been some issues with users with wired and wireless network adapters both enabled and apparent confusion with packet routing with the license server, OR having a wired, or wireless, adapter enabled but the license server is on "the other" network segment so there is actually no route to the license server on the enabled adapter. Being offered the option to start in "Lite" mode is indicative of not being able to get a license, if it only takes a couple of seconds to bring up the "Lite" offer, you are likely communicating with the license server but it is not able to provide a license, check the license manager log file - you may need the server admin to get that - if it takes "minutes" to bring up the "Lite" offer, you are, most likely, not communicating with the license server.
I have an isse with OrCAD capture license all of a sudden. I have been running version 16.5 (out-of-date revision for sure but can't recall which one I was on) for many months. In last 2-3 weeks I had some sudden crashes on the OrCAD Cature. Today, I am unable to start OrCAD. After a few mintes a window pops-up "OrCAD Capture License was not found. Would you like to launch Capture using lite license?" When I click on Yes, it does bring up the Capture. Furthermore, I am able to ping our server successfully. I have re-booted the PC but I still can't get OrCAD to start in its full mode. I am running it on Windows 7. Someone suggested uninstall and re-install of the software which feels like an overkill but sometimes that is what is necessary. Any suggestions from anyone? Thanks in advance.
It sounds like you may have locked the license tokem at the license manager, try restarting the Cadence License Manager Service on the machine running the License Manager, for a default configuration using services, the service can be restarted from Control Panel, Admin.. Tools, Services, locate the Cadence License Manager, select it and Restart. You will need to get the server administrator to restart the service if you don't have admin acess to the server.
Currently, I used MS access .mdb database for mat for setting CIS on Orcad
But move on Orcad 17.2 version (run on Windows 7), CIS setting was error and can not use as normal
And i founded that can use Sqlite3 ODBC driver to created user DSN to link to database like picture below.
I do not known: How to create .DB format to use this one to link to ODBC Sqlite3?
Please help me to create it?
Or How to fix CIS error of Orcad 17.2 when this tool installed on Windows7?
Note: Orcad CIS cadence 17.2 support on Window 10. Is it right or not?
Today O retured to orcad (16.3) and i saw the presence of PCB but not layout also if in the "create netlist"of Capture there is still the tab for layout. Someone can help meif there is a difference or it's an evolution? Also because in pcb editor, i can t use tech file, .mnl file etc..Thank you!
Now i have a question: if Allegro is an historical evolution of Layout, why i can't find tech files or the option to load nml file? Probably because i can't use PCB editor, so, can you link me a tutorial?
Allegro and Layout are totally different. Allegro is not an evolution of Layout. I think redwire is just saying that Cadence has made Allegro their PCB design tool of the present and future, and as such Layout Plus is going bye-bye.
Check out $CDSROOT\doc\algrotutorial\algrotutorial.pdf for help getting started with Allegro. Although there are lots of buried options and lots to master, that should get you started. You can find an example board at $CDSROOT\share\pcb\examples\board_design.
2)I don't find a layout tool in my orcad. May it be? In cadence site, -eda.com/OrCADLayout/default.aspx, it's written there is end of life process for layout, so i think even i can export a mnl file from capture, i cant'use because there isn't layout tool
I created a block diagram of my design in Microsoft Visio. This diagram is an 11" x 17" B-size page. I am trying to place a JPG image of that block diagram into a page of my schematic but there seems to be some restriction that I cannot find.
At first I thought it was a file size limit of 100KB, but found that not to be the case. Then I tried creating the JPG with various percentages of quality, from 100% down to 45%, seemingly with no effect. I've tried various pixel dimensions, from 120 X 120 pixels down to 90 x 90 pixels per inch, and find that I can usually import files with lower pixel resolution, though it takes most of 60 seconds to do so.
This is normally down to the Page size, Make the Page size large so it can physically load the picture. I can certainly place a jpeg in 17.2 so also make sure you are running the latest hotfix from support.cadence.com or Download Manager
Make sure that you have any Capture related processes closed, a reboot should get you there. Find the active Capture.ini file, usually in the installation in tools\Capture and rename it. Start Regedit.exe, find the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OrCAD\CaptureWorkspace key and delete it and the subkeys that belong to it, then close regedit and see if that fixes things. Get the latest hotfix.
We had an XP machine running 16.2 fine. Installed 16.3 into a new directory and it wouldn't load. Removed everything, 16.2 and 16.3 then reinstalled 16.3. Still has the same problem, when I launch orcad cis the first time it never loads. I can see the capture.exe process running in taskmgr, it grabs 50% of the CPU and will hold that for at least several hours without ever fully loading.
Me too. OrCAD Capture 16.3-p008 was working fine. All of a sudden, when I loaded it again, I would get the splash screen. A moment later the splash screen would go away, but the program window never came up. On Windows 7 when I mouse over OrCAD Capture on the task bar, I would get a short window with the program name in it, rather than a thumbnail of the main window -- I think this means the main window wasn't created yet, much less displayed. Task Manager showed the program, but not as "Not Responding". The program easily exited from task bar close window option on popup.

I am currently in the early stages of layout involving reuse modules.
me and my customer had one success building a reuse module ( MDD )
and re loading it to other BRD 4 times.
i checked that routing passes silk and assy Ref Des changes and even moving and changing components rotation.
then asked the customer in order to check the entire procedure to delete and add a component to the base module and to see if the changes propagate to the main BRD.
but then all kinds of problems begun. as i think they are related to the OrCAD anotation procedure. I get duplicate RefDes in the main BRD ( each module contains R20 )
we tried updating the REUSE_ID in the schematic of the module.
and i also noticed that only CS traces are copied to the modules ( other layer traces are deleted )
has any of you passed thru this procedure with success ? any recommendations ?
am i doing something wrong ?

From what you have said iyou have left out a lot of steps here.
1st if you make a change to the base module you need to do a tools->annotatate-> Allegro Reuse tab and generate the reuse module symobal.
2nd) need to replace the cache for that reuse module symbol by doing a replace on that symbol
3rd) If you have made a change that effect the physical symbol .mdd which adding a component would you need to update the .mdd by reading the netlist created from the reuse module schematic into and then place the component and route if thats what you want. then recreate the .mdd file
4th) you need to take theschematic with reuse symbols in it and tools->annotatate-> Allegro Reuse tab and reunumber the design for using reuse modules since you have all ready associated the schematic to a board you will want the action to be set to incremental.
5th) netlist and read into board
It sounds like the renumber action step was missed or set to absolute.

i don't understand your terminology can you explain replace the cahche .
there are detailed instruction in the Orcad HELP >learning Capture > Capture Allegro Design Reuse which i followed both in orcad and allegro.
the first try worked very smooth. (including changes to Comp placement route ans save new MDD and update to the root PCB)
then i asked the EE as an Experiment to add and remove a component and do connectivity change in the reuse design in order to check the procedure before the real work ( which will invovle 8 big modules - each about 150 comps - which may change during the work)
but then the problems started :
we had few cases
components with out RefDes ... "R?"
componets without REUSE_ID assigned.
comps with duplicate Part Refernce in the OrCAD which resulted in 4 R20 in the Base PCB.
we noticed that it happens when both reuse design and base design are open in capture
and that before annotating the reuse design we have to uncheck and recheck the Generate Reuse Module before selecting the OK on the Annotate > Allegro Reuse TAB.
the EE Duplicated one of the existing Res in the reuse design for our experiment . and then the duplicated Res's have same Part Reference as the copied Res.
when got the base design ( at our PCB layout office) same parts in different reuse block had same Part Reference.
we found that it is related to the fact that the implementation path of the blocks at the customer were different path then mine (which i updated manually) then he changed the implementation path to be only the reuse design name and saved it in same directory as the base design which i also did.
we had about 8 netlist to try and solve the problem but we haven't solved it yet.
i am almost sure that the problem is related to the OrCAD side and not to the Allegto.
i hope that the answer is around the corner.
