1899, the Christmas-time St.Petersburg. Ice-covered rivers and canals of the capital seethe with festive activities. On the eve of the new century those who should not be destined to meet, come together. They are people from different worlds: Matvey, the son of a lamplighter, whose only treasure is his silver-plated skates; Alice is the daughter of a high-ranking official dreaming of science. Each of them has his own difficult life-story, but having accidentally met they rush forward together in pursuit of their dreams.
5 stars because it's now my new favorite comfort movie.
It has everything; snow, romance, Christmas aesthetic, ice skaters, hot Russians, a wannabe pirate, cotton candy, pretty costumes, a princess who wants to become a scientist, nice visuals, romance, a gang of pickpockets on skates, warm colors, people defying gravity, unrealistic fun fights and chasing, cops that are actually ice dancers, good soundtrack, Russian Tom Holland, Marxists.
I don't care about its flaws and unrealistic stuff, it's perfect.
A Russian film set in St Petersburg at the turn of the 20th century, Silver Skates is a love story set across the strict social divides that existed at the time, as the daughter of an aristocrat falls in love with a delivery boy whose only possession is a pair of silver skates he uses to travel along the frozen canals of the city to make his deliveries.
"Silver Skates" is one of the latest movies to join Netflix's perpetually-growing slate of original content released this year. The film takes place in a fantastical version of St. Petersburg in 1899, in which its various rivers and canals are perpetually frozen over. As a result, its citizens are able to traverse the city on ice.
According to the official Netflix description of "Silver Skates," the film is based not on a true story but inspired by both "Romeo & Juliet," as well as the novel "Hans Brinker, or The Silver Skates: A Story of Life in Holland," which was first published in 1865.
The Silver Skates is a delightful skate through St. Petersburg at the turn of the twentieth century. Most of the film takes place on an iced-over Neva River. The action centers on a group of young Marxist pickpockets who deploy the physics of skating to steal from wealthy customers at the on-ice market.
The second feature from 27-year-old Balagov is set in 1945 Leningrad, a city devastated by World War II. The film centers on Iya and Masha, two young women struggling to rebuild their lives among the ruins and find a reason to keep living.

Indeed we do, but fingers crossed. Before crews start uprooting trees, the 10-day celebration of all things winter will have brought thousands of Edmontonians down to the park for ice skating and other athletics, film, snow sculptures, storytelling, plus locally made culinary treats and beverages. Music also continues to be a big part of Silver Skate, and this year the festival is casting off one of the last remaining relics of the pandemic.

This romantic drama film follows the love story between a petty thief on skates rolling across the frozen canals & rivers in St. Petersburg, Russia and a daughter of an aristocrat. Watch them face all odds and challenges that people throw their way in order to keep them apart! It's indeed one heart-warming movie, even though you'll need the help of subtitles.
The Yin Yang Master is a Mandarin language fantasy film with some mind-blowing graphics. The story follows the events that happen after a few drops between 9the Reigns and the yin yang master Quing Ming teams up with the disgraced guard Yuan Boya to vanquish a demonic threat as a conspiracy looms. Since this is the battle of the cosmos, it is a great cinematic experience with some amazing visual effects.
This Spanish-language film is a heist movie starring the famous actor, Miguel Herrán AKA Rio, from the Money Heist Franchise in the lead. The story is about Ángel, a mechanic from the Madrid suburbs, who dives into a world of heists and becomes the target of a relentless detective after falling for a pretty girl, Estrella.

In 2002, siblings Robert F. Kan and Betsy Klein donated this and other films (see more below) that capture vacations, daily activities, and other moments in their Dutch Jewish family's prewar life. They and their parents, Frits Kan and Jeanne (Bloch) Kan, escaped the Nazis by immigrating to the United States in May 1940.
