This is the client that most students should download. This software will show a pop-up window that displays your PaperCut balance and provides a link to the PaperCut User page. It will also load the BluePrint global queues used throughout campus.
PaperCut delivers these notifications by determining where the user printed the job from (i.e. the workstation where the job was printed). If user client notifications are not being delivered there could be a number of reasons why, and this article discussed how to diagnose/resolve these problems.
If you find that the owner of the print job according to the job log is different than the user signed in to the PaperCut client, it might be worth having a look at this knowledge base article: Troubleshooting jobs attributed to the wrong user or wrong owner name.
Then reproduce the problem of the popup not appearing on the client workstation, and collect the following information. It is important to collect all of this information to give the support team as much information as possible.
There are other configuration keys that allow an administrator to customize the User Client for their organization. The table below outlines all of the client customization config keys available. You can update the value of these config keys using the Advanced Config Editor
To force standard dialogs, you can use the user client option called disable-balloon-tips. This option can also be set by adding a disable-balloon-tips=Y line (or uncommenting the existing line) to the client config.properties file located at [app-path]/client/win/.
There is also a second Authentication window which can be displayed, this Authentication window is used to securely validate a user when printing. These two windows are not linked to one another in regards to user Authentication and do not override the operating system authentication between client workstation and the print server.
The default time-to-live value automatically selected when the login authentication window displays. This overrides the value configured on the server. This option can also be set by adding or enabling the auth-ttl-default= line in the client config.properties file.
Similar to the Windows version of the client software, the Linux/Unix Java version is installed in the /client directory on the server. Copy or make available to the Linux/Unix workstation, all files in this directory. Common methods include:
Log on as a user (a user listed in the PaperCut NG/MF system) in your preferred Linux desktop GUI environment. Locate and execute the file /usr/local/papercut/client/pc-client-linux.sh. The PaperCut NG/MF client should open displaying the user's account balance.
This section covers the installation of the PaperCut User ClientThe User Client tool is an add-on that resides on a user's desktop. It allows users to view their current account balance via a popup window, provides users with the opportunity to confirm what they are about to print, allows users to select shared accounts via a popup, if administrators have granted access to this feature, and displays system messages, such as the "low credit" warning message or print policy popups. on Apple Mac systems. Before installing the client software, review Mac printing in detail and first ensure printing is working as expected.
The legacy client, which supports Mac OS X versions from 10.4 to 10.6. It is a universal application that runs on both PowerPC and Intel hardware. The legacy client will not receive future feature enhancements.
The current version of the PaperCut client does not work on Mac OS X 10.6 and earlier. For these systems the legacy client must be used. If the client fails to start, ensure you are using the correct client for your system.
The legacy client software works best if Java 5 (or higher) is installed. Java 5 is available for OS X 10.4 or above. If Java is not already installed, the installer is available from the Apple website. This simplest way to install Java is to run /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences from OS X Finder, and you are prompted to complete the installation.
This method is suitable for a Mac computer used by a single user. For example, a personal Mac desktop or laptop. The installation process involves clicking the client-local-install program. This copies the PCClient application into the over to the system's Applications folder and starts the client in the "confirm network identity" mode. The simplest way to run the install process is to connect to a Windows server's pcclient share over the network, however, alternate methods such as copying the folder contents via a USB key or drive are also possible.
Double-click the client-local-install file. This executes a small AppleScript program that starts the install/copy process. (If installing on a legacy system (OS X 10.6 or earlier), you must install the legacy client located in the legacy folder.)
If the user needs the User Client for printing (for example, to use the shared accountA shared account is an account that is shared by multiple users. For example, in business, shared accounts can be used to track printing costs by business unit, project, or client. Organizations like legal firms, engineering firms, or accounting offices often have long lists of accounts, projects, clients, or matters. In a school or university, shared accounts can be used to track printing by departments, classes, or subjects. popup), configure the application to automatically open upon start up:
A more flexible option over locally installing the PCClient package on each Mac system, is to directly launch the client from the pcclient share. The advantage of this deployment method is that any updates applied on the server (and updates to the client directory) are automatically propagated to all workstations.
The process of setting up zero-install deployment varies from network to network depending on the directory environment in use and administrator preferences. The process can, however, be summarized as:
The PaperCut Print Deploy client is already installed on the majority of TU managed computers. See the Adding Printers sections in the Windows or macOS PDF guides attached to this article for instructions adding and removing printers.
PaperCut is the print management software used by the School of Architecture to track, manage and secure printing in the school. Users are required to first install the PaperCut client before they are able to use SoA printers. If you need additional assistance with its installation, please contact us.
I was going to use PaperCut API though as far as I can judge XML-RPC doesn't support Node.JS or I couldn't find an appropriate client for the purpose. Here's the link with PaperCut API: -mf/common/topics/tools-web-services.html
If you are working on a managed computer you probably already have the client installed. If, not, either ask your administrator about it or install it by yourself. You will find installation files and instructions below.
The PaperCut MF client allows HLS students to access public printing services; this will allow laptop users to print jobs to any of the dedicated public printers around the Law School. You must be connected to Harvard Secure WiFI or VPN to install the PaperCut software and to print.
Resolution: The PaperCut client on each workstation is responsible for displaying the account selection dialog. If the dialog does not appear when submitting print jobs, reboot the workstation to restart the PaperCut client. Alternatively, you can follow the steps below to restart the client without restarting the computer.
We are attempting to demo PaperCut MF; and are running into a problem with their print deploy client that pushes print queues to client computers. The server is a physical server behind a FortiGate 61F at site B, and there's another site LAN behind another FortiGate 61F, we'll call that site A. The sites are connected via point to point VPN and we can access resources, ping addresses across. PaperCut PD Firewall Ports I see the linked support article, but I don't see anywhere in the FortiGate that the traffic is actually being blocked. Thoughts/ideas? PaperCut is adamant that there's something blocking it. My endpoint protection isn't showing anything blocking this either.
PaperCut Client
The PaperCut client will be installed on all classroom and research lab computers. Soon it may also be available for personally owned faculty computers (stay tuned lots of new features coming!).
The changes now for Windows Point and Print, that's making a connections to a shared printer, have new defaults from Microsoft. First, the users on the Windows client must have administrative access on the machine in order to install the software from the server. If that software on the print server is infected, being admin is really not going to help actually, that kind of makes it worse.
Since you have GPO deployment, you can add a registry setting to the client machine which reverts the new default to the past behavior where a standard user can install this software. The software from the server is the print driver.
