Anytime I download a .zip file or create a compressed folder, my PC makes it a Winzip file, which is no good because I don't want to pay their fee to get the full version (the version I have was a trial one I obtained when I had this one .zip file that needed it to work).
If you need WinZip for some specialist features, but want to use the inbuilt facilities in most case, just (for w8):- go to Control Panel- choose Programs- choose 'Make file types always open in a specific program'- scroll down for ".zip"- select 'change program' in the top right- choose 'windows explorer'
If not, 7zip as mentioned above is a good choice, or just grab the "trial version of WinZip/WinRAR/whatever - they pretty much all work just fine after the trial period runs out. I've been on my 40-day trial of WinRAR for about ten years now.
Step 3. After it finishes the download process, you can click the winzip.exe file at the bottom of your browser or open the location where the WinZip app file is saved to open its installer. Then follow the on-screen instructions to install WinZip on your PC.
Note: WinZip offers a free 20-day trial and needs a subscription for $7.99/year after the trial period. If you want to continue using the WinZip full version on your PC with all features, you may choose to pay for the annual subscription based on your own needs.
Zip Compressed Files
Windows XP and Windows Vista have a zip compression utility built into the operating system. If you are using a Macintosh or running an older Windows operating system and do not already have a compression program such as WinZip, you can download a free temporary trial version of WinZip (Windows) or download a similar compression program:
Imagine: the lightning is starting, and you've got 50 windows openon your desktop that would take an hour to restore from scratch. You want to hibernate now! Here's how to enable hibernating if it isn't showing up in the shutdownbox:
Open the Control Panels and open "Power Options". Go to the "Hibernate" tab and make sure the the box to enableHibernation is checked. When you hit "Turn Off Computer" in the Start menu, if you still onlysee a Standby button, then try holding down a Shift key -- the Standbybutton should change to a Hibernate button. Obvious, huh?
