for years there is no more development on the official Caspar Client. Looks like a dead horse to me.
So whats the plan there? Will this be continued in any way or do we all have to write our own clients?
IMHO there are many playout clients and very few CG clients. I discussed it previously.
The official client is a very complete and functional command repository and automation connector for the server and it already reached the top of what it should do. In the past coulple of years, the work put into the client was mostly compatibility patches. And I think that is ok.
SVT uses the official client for most of their shows, like Melodifestivalen or the ESC in Stockholm, but also for news and a lot of other stuff. So I think this client is quite complete and far away from being basic.
Sure it depends what you want to do and how much automation you want to have. I used to do custom clients for all my bigger productions in the past, but now I do a lot using my Excel AddIn. Excel can do a lot and the AddIn only sends the data, that Excel is preparing to CasparCG for display.
@mint It even puts me off doing any work to it. I have done plenty of C++, but never any QT so it would require learning a whole new framework to be able to do anything. I did try to compile it once not too long ago, and I think even just doing that took a while to get working.
Personally I am really on board with the client being remade in a more modern and easily maintainable stack.
Yes, that would be good. Shall we open up a tread to discuss ideas around a new client? I think it should not be a 1:1 clone of the existing one only as an Electron (or something like it) app. What do you think?
I have the listener declared as a 'Connect as Client' with the correct client information for the CasparCG server.
I know it can contact the server because I can send RossTalk commands to it in the same page.
Trim media hotkeys: (Note: preview is only available at this time via a stream consumer on the server and not in the client itself)* Note: on CasparCG server version 2.1 NOT 2.1 Beta2, trimming a movie will only be accurate to within a few seconds not to the exact frame. on a short clip (under 20 minutes) trim points are accurate to within one second. on a longer clip(50 minutes or longer) the accuracy is within 5 seconds. Now I want to start sending my own messages to the connection as a response. Therefor I use the TCP-OUT NODE with "Reply To TCP" activated. But where should I inject my message and should I use the session-id to address the client? If so, is the port then set automatically? I don't get it to work.
Caspar works using a client-server model. That means the client (the part you use to control it) and the server (the backend part that does all the heavy lifting) are actually two separate programs that talk to each other. This is so that in large news studios, you can have one client control several computers running a server, which makes CasparCG very scalable. We don't need that, so we'll be running the client and the server on the same computer. Why am I telling you this? So you're not confused when you see "CasparCG Server" and "CasparCG Client" in your programs list!
You will rarely interact directly with CasparCG Server; instead you'll use the client to tell the server what to do. The client lets you arrange your media in a rundown, which is a lot like a playlist. You drag and drop video/audio onto the rundown in the order you want, then you can click through each one during your broadcast.

To add REPLAY title you must put mov video file with alpha-channel with name "replay.mov" to the media folder and enable checkbox in the client.

Folderplayout is a a 24/7 playout client based on hierarchical schedule. You can combine groups, folders, clips and live inputs and use dates, weeks, days and hours to schedule these. When nothing from the schedule is playing, an external input is played. For example an info channel.
