Ineed to play a list of mp3 files one by one. I mean I need to go to the next track manually. I tried to do so in PotPlayer, WMP and VLC. All of them jump to the next track after playing the current file. How to prevent this?

VLC does it like a champ, under tools > preferences, first set it to show all in the bottom right, then select the playlist item from the list on the left, and you can see a whole bunch of playback options and good help for each one if you ouse over!

I know this is an old, outdated response but I was looking for this same feature (specifically to stop after each audio track, not videos) and this page @David Gold helped me get to the right setting. I only needed the setting related to audio files:

In WMP, create a new playlist containing the MP3 files that you want to play this way. Then, instead of double-clicking each file in the playlist, right-click each file and select Play (not Play all).

Play all, which is the default action, starts playing the selected file, while putting the current list of songs in the Play tab. The Play action, on the other hand, only puts the selected file in the Play tab.

I've created a WAV file that loops perfectly, as verified by using Loop Play in the Audacity audio editor. I want to keep the file small and have my media player loop it rather than having the file repeat its content over and over. I used to use Media Player Classic for this, but I just tried with the latest version and it pauses slightly before looping (just like standard WMP, VLC, and other clients I've tried). Are there any media players that will do this properly with no intervening gap? Opening it in Audacity and manually starting a loop is more hassle than I'm interested in doing every time I want to listen.

Foobar2000 should support gapless playback - its supposed to work for lossless tracks, and WAV is, well not compressed, so is as lossless as they come. You'll likely need to create a playlist with a single track, and pick "Repeat(Track)" under Playback. You might also consider converting it to flac and playing around with metadata as suggested here, if that dosen't work

Mplayer is a media player for Linux and Windows that does gapless playback (no silence between tracks) including in loop mode. On the command line this is achieved with the -loop 0 option (infinite loop).

I think you may have inadvertently answered your own question. You say an older version of Media Player Classic worked the way you like. Well, Media Player Classic is a portable app, meaning you can use it without installing anything. So get the version you used to use, and use that for that file.

I've imported 8 seconds of mp3 audio (music) that I've spread across the first two slides of my presentation. When I run the presentation the clip runs once but then repeats endlessly. I can't stop it and it is driving me NUTS!

Wehn you add audio to a background it will begin to play from the beginning of the project regardless of whatever other audio is present on slides or objects...and Loop Audio is on by default for background auio.

However, it does not seem to work. When I pick a playlist and tap the shuffle button in the header, it will always default to "Shuffle songs AND categories", giving me random tracks from my music library. I must manually go through the shuffle options to get "Shuffle only songs".

While that works, if I stop playback and disconnect from Bluetooth (car/headphones), when I resume playback of that playlist (by just tapping play on the player UI), the shuffle mode will revert to "Shuffle songs AND categories" so again I need to pick the playlist again, go through the shuffle options etc. etc.

Only once the current playlist has been completed does the "and categories" bit come into effect, and rather than continuing to play the next playlist in order, it will pick a new random playlist and play all of its contents shuffled. And so on until it runs out of playlists.

Tapping the top Shuffle Icon by default sets the Shuffle mode to 'Shuffle Songs and Categories', meaning it will play the current Category in shuffled order first, then pick a new Category at random and shuffle that. The specific shuffling mode used by that icon can be customised using Settings=>Library=>Shuffle=>Category Items Shuffle.

The only difference between 'Shuffle Songs' and 'Shuffle Songs and Categories' is what happens after the current playlist has been completely played. In the first case, the next playlist will be chosen in order, but in the second case a new playlist will be chosen at random.

If you don't want playback to continue with a new playlist once the current one is complete, change the Repeat mode on the Player Screen from the default of 'Advance Category' to 'Repeat Off' (which will stop at the end of the current playlist) or 'Repeat Category' (which will repeat the current playlist again, in a new shuffled order).

If you kill the player (i.e. force close as opposed to simply closing the interface by using the Back or Home buttoms) then yes, you might possibly lose the current shuffle session. Otherwise the current session should be continued when you next return to Poweramp and press Play on the Player Screen. To check this, take a look at the numbers on the track counter (between the Timer and Repeat icons) which should show numbers in the format nn / xxxx, meaning song nn of a total of xxxx planned songs. If nn ever goes back to 1 again, a reshuffle has occurred and a new order is being played. (Note: the track counter display is optional, if it is turned off you can enable it via Settings=>Look and Feel=>Player UI=>Show Track Counter)
