My problem is, I recently got a new Blu-ray. It was released only a few days ago - Glengarry Glen Ross. Every other Blu-ray I put in my Blu-ray drive plays just fine without any problem, but when I stick in Glengarry Glen Ross it always comes up with the following message:
"AACS License Key Update: An important component of CyberLink PowerDVD requires periodic updates. New movies may not play back if the component is not updated now. Would you like to update now? (Error code = 0024)" and there is a yes and no button.
Every time I hit "yes", it will try to download this update but it will immediately throw me back to the same message about 3 seconds later in a continuous loop. So basically it will not let me play this Blu-ray which is a real shame. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
When you insert a BD into the drive, PowerDVD loads up a 'companion' player called "PowerDVD Cinema" instead of it's 'main' player. When I got this update alert, I was just in the 'main' PowerDVD program which appears when you just click PowerDVD's start menu shortcut. If you didn't do it that way before, give it a try. Maybe update alerts are only available through its main program? I haven't actually had an update alert through PowerDVD Cinema before.
My version is 9.6.1.4418. The cyberlink website does not list anything about the version you mentioned and lists build 4105 as the last release. If I press the 'upgrade' button in PowerDVD after CTRL-A, it does not list any available downloads other than purchasing a new version. The Dell Download Locker only has version 9.6.1.3522 available. A google search for the version you mentioned turns up only 5 sites, including this forum page, and none from the cyberlink site.
Even from the main PowerDVD program I wasn't getting notices about an update being available. It is funny that they would have only provided the notice for such a short window that people might not have even noticed the update was available. Dell should put this and future PowerDVD updates on their drivers/downloads site.
I suppose that even though we did not purchase computers where fine print indicated that our Blu Ray software would no longer work when new disks were released requiring updated AACS keys, unless Dell and Cyberlink make a deal to keep this software going or update all users to the newest version, then a similar situation will likely play out in the next year give or take a few months.
attempted to go to my dell downloads / and received error Service Tag is not supported/ I asked them to send the cyberlink powerdvd cd and they sent the power dvd cd for windows 8? is there any way to get the oem version that came with the computer? cyberlink does not support this issue at all?
I have had the same issue, but when I try to download the power dvd 9 from my download center and try to install it, it creates a cab error and the file is corrupted. I tried calling support, but since my computer is out of warranty, they wont help without charging me $200 American dollars. I can buy a whole new dvd program for way less than that, and one that is supported by the company that created it. It looks to me there is a lot of issues with this software and am very frustrated, I spent a lot of money on my computer and this happens right when the warranty goes out....things that make you go "hhmmm". I thought dell was a better company than this.
It's arguable that the actual Blu-ray format has the most issues. At the end of the day, Blu-ray are forcing software developers to constantly be on the ball or else their software won't function properly... AACS, HDCP, all these ridiculous content protection layers just cause problems and have no benefit to the end-user whatsoever. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother buying Blu-rays anymore because I come across too many issues. I've got another one now that I never had before I updated PowerDVD where I'm having trouble playing Blu-rays on a secondary monitor... Probably a HDCP issue. All we're really paying for is heavily locked down discs we can hardly do anything with.
TinyButDeadly, you are awesome. You just solved my problem. I was getting the same error and I was not able to update the PowerDVD program. But after reading your post I opened the main version of the PowerDVD and not the companion one that automatically starts when you insert a disc. The moment I started the main program for PowerDVD I got an alert saying there is an update available for 9.6 and if I don't do that update I may have issues playing blu-ray discs. After doing the update it totally resolve the issue. I would highly recommend anyone getting the "AACS license key update " error to try your tip (see TinyButDeadly post on 03-31-2013 4:48pm). It worked for me. Thanks to you I can play Blu-Ray movies again with my XPS laptop. You saved me so much trouble :)
I have encountered this issue a couple of times, and getting updates via the CyberLink PowerDVD main application solved the problem. This time however it is not providing any updates, and I'm getting the same error. It seems PowerDVD 9.6 is no longer being updated, so newer Blurays are not supported.
