I found the boat for my trip south and I'm the new owner of a Nonsuch 30C contingent on final inspection this spring.  I'll be reading this group with renewed interest
and welcome any advice regarding Nonsuch sailboats.  My boat will be renamed Whalewind to match the web site I've already put up to document the trip.

Hurry up spring!!!

Welcome John, and while most Nonsuchers tend to name there boats with a somewhat feline associated name or play on words, I'm sure we will be hearing about "Whalewind" in the future. Just make sure you follow the traditional ( at least one of them) ceremony when taking possession.

What is the Hull and Sail number of the boat.

Cheers

Yes, I plan to follow several renaming procedures. ;-)

The boat is currently named Anum Cara and the hull number is 16 as I understand it. ZHYNS016M791. I would appreciate some help decoding this.

ZHY = Hinterhoeller
NS = Nonsuch
016 = Hull 16 (I think)
M = Month of manufacture???
79 = 1979

I don't know what the 1 at the end stands for.

Nonsuch Hull Numbering System

Information submitted by Jerry Stange

This is my understanding of the numbering systems Hinterhoeller used in the
United States and
Canada for boats, and may help clear up confusion as to the age of your
boat.
The 12-character Hull Identification number (HIN) is molded in the top
starboard of the transom.
The numbering system was changed between boats manufactured before August 1,
1984 and
boats manufactured after that date. I've used the HIN's for the two
Nonsuches I have owned in the examples below.

Boats manufactured before August 1, 1984 follow this code:**

Example: ZHYN2025M81K

A) ZHY Denotes Hinterhoeller
B) N2 Nonsuch-26 (See Table I below)
C) 025 Hull #25
D) M81 Model Year, 1981
E) K Hull started in June (See Table II below)
Boats manufactured after Aug. 1, 1984 follow this code:

Example: ZHYN2606G595

A) ZHY Denotes Hinterhoeller
B) N26 Nonsuch-260 (See Table I below)
C) 06 Hull #6 (note the 260, 324 and 354 allow only 2 digits
D) G5 Hull started in February (See Table II below)
E) 95 Model Year, 1995

Table I - Model Designation Codes

Table II - Month Hull Was Started

N1- Nonsuch-22 A) August G) February
N2- Nonsuch-26 B) September H) March
N26- Nonsuch-260 C) October I) April
N3- Nonsuch-30 D) November J) May
N31- Nonsuch-324 E) December K) June
N4- Nonsuch-36 F) January L) July
N5- Nonsuch-33
N50- Nonsuch-354
** Prior to 1981 when the only Nonsuches built were 30-footers, the HIN
numbers began "ZHYNS..."

Hi John,

Welcome from the International Nonsuch Association. Over the years the INA has actively and progressively enhanced member benefits.  In addition to the annual Registry, quarterly newsletters, access to custom parts, tanks, manuals and other Nonsuch chandlery, the INA maintains this discussion group and the Nonsuch Website.  All this makes for an interactive, informative and valuable membership experience. Please feel free to visit the website and explore.

As you will see, the organization is strong, new members like you continue to join and are welcomed warmly into our Nonsuch community. The bi-annual rendezvous continues to be an extremely popular event. You will not want to miss the 2014 Rendezvous in Toronto, which is promising to be one, if not the best, Nonsuch Rendezous ever.

If you like what you see, please consider becoming a member of the International Nonsuch Association.  Here is the link to "Join the INA" which can also be found on the Nonsuch website.

Best wishes to you and many happy voyages aboard Whalewind.

Bob Cornell, VP and US Membership Director

Jon, thanks for re-posting this information. I already had this and I was hoping someone could tell me what the "M" in my serial number meant and the "1" at the end of the serial number meant.
