Hi all,

I am participating in a race next week and one of the race requirements is that boats are equipped with two radar reflectors. Does anyone have any recommendations on radar reflector type and placement? Will be going up the mast to install a new masthead light and wireless wind sensor this weekend. Hoping to install the radar reflectors at that time as well. Thanks in advance!

Hi Madison,
When you are up the mast make sure your burgee halyard is in good shape.  The radar reflectors I'm familiar with are hoisted when needed.

Unless permanent installation is required, I avoid drilling or installing hardware on Soave's mast.

Madison,
Some people install the tube style reflectors on the boom hangers. Plastimo sells them. Mobri Type S-2 is another.  You can also buy an inexpensive Davis 151 Emergency reflector that you can hoist on the burgee halyard.

Madison - Is AIS an optional substitute? 2 radar reflectors is a lot. For a bit more, AIS is a much better solution to be seen and hailed by other boats, especially commercial ships. Here’s one I use, available cheaper if you look around:
