I think I might be having a problem with my propane system. I say think because I'm not sure if it is operating as intended or not.

Since we've owned Adagio, when using any propane system (stove, hot water, heater) our typical procedure is to first open the valve at the tank then turn on the Newtec gas detection switch in the galley. This panel has a red light on it that turns green after holding the reset button for three seconds (as instructions tell us to). We then begin using our appliances with no issues.

Last night I was cooking dinner and afterwards decided to burn any propane in the lines out (recently read this is a good idea). To do so I lit a burner on the stove and then flipped the switch on the Newtec control panel. My understanding was that that should close the electronic solenoid in the propane locker and shut off the propane. After waiting for nearly a minute the burner was still going strong so I went to the tank and closed the valve on it. Within seconds the burner went out. Curious I opened the valve again and attempted to relight the stove without turning on the switch on the Newtec panel. The stove lit right up, This told me that the panel either:

a) doesn't open and close the electronic solenoid as I thought and maybe only activates the solenoid if propane is detected at the detector (in the bilge). or;

b) the solenoid isn't working.

Does anyone else have this system that can tell me if it isn't working properly? I've looked online and it looks like Newtec is out of business. If I need to replace the solenoid does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement?

Thanks for the help!

you should hear a click when you turn on the solenoid valve; sounds like yours is not working.

Replacement is a High pressure, 12 volt, propane solenoid valve.
They are available online.

Solenoids are nominally off and power opens them. It will be in the propane locker and as mentioned makes a clicking sound.  Pretty bullet proof.  If you are getting gas when "off" then  there is something holding the solenoid energized. Remove the ground from the solenoid and see if you can get gas. If gas will not flow it is the switch.

Not sure why the solenoid needs to be connected to the propane detector, they are not really related. The detector is always "on" and solenoid as needed.

I think New Tec is no more...

Your solenoid is bad and stuck in the energized position or the panel is not cutting off 12v to the solenoid.  A voltage meter at the solenoid should clear that up.
I use a xintex 2a propane detector and it works great.

We have a Xintex detector and the solenoid is part of the unit.  I believe that if gas is detected it shuts off the solenoid.  Yours is probably similar.  At any rate, it does sound like your solenoid is bad.
