Having a problem with the stove, This is the first time I am trying to use it. The top burners come on fine and the stove pilot light stays on but the main oven burner does not come on. I guess it could be the thermostat where ever that is? I left it at 350 with the door open for 15 minutes and the pilot light stayed on but nothing else, Any help would be greatly appreciated,

the gas to each burner flows through a tiny hole in a fitting under
the burner cap.

that hole is probably clogged

Peter:  The following is from the manual which I assume you have  The bulb they mention may have gone bad and need to be replaced.
OPERATING.INSTRUCTIONS - LPG OVEN
1. Light the right front burner to bleed air from the system for at least 1 minute. Turn the temperature control knob from
the "Off" position to the "Pilot On" position. After this has been done, light the pilot in the oven (constant pilot).
2. After the oven pilot Is lit, turn the oven temperature control knob to the desired temperature (example: 350 degrees).
3. You will notice the constant pilot grow in size. It is now being used as a heater pilot. The heater pilot will heat the
sensing bulb from the mercury control valve. Once this sensing bulb has reached a sufficient temperature, it will
open the mercury control valve permitting it to release gas to the main burner and the main burner will Ignite. This
will happen in 30 to 60 seconds.
4. When the oven has reached the desired temperature, the thermostat will stop the supply of gas to the heater pilot,
and once again it will become the constant pilot, thus causing the sensing bulb from the mercury control valve to
cool. The mercury valve will close and stop the gas supply to the main burner.
5. When the oven requires more heat, the same cycle will again repeat itself. The only time the oven will operate
differently would be when the thermostat is in the "Broil" position. The main burner flame would then increase in size
and not shut off until the thermostat was turned down or to the "off' position.
6. IMPORTANT: The oven thermostat on this LPG range is designed to enable you to turn off the oven constant pilot
by simply turning the thermostat dial to the "Off' position. When the dial is in this position, you cannot light the
constant pilot. When the dial is in the "Pilot On" position, the pilot is on.

Pull off the temp control knob for the oven. There’s a screw in the centre of the knob shaft that is used to adjust the fuel going to the burner. It’s a small needle jet and quite often these become corroded. Try turning the screw back and forth a few times and it may clean off the needle. I have never completely removed it. The purpose of this jet is to calibrate the oven temperature. So if you do get it to light, get an oven thermometer, and with some luck you can calibrate the oven to the knob temp. In other words, if you set it to 350 it actually will be 350.

I just found this site which seems to be very through in what needs to be done and what parts are available, I don't think I saw the high pilot light but I didn't know to look for it so that will be my next test.

LInes right up with what you sent Joe,  Bad part is it says there are no real replacement parts and it looks like a bit of work to convert to a new thermostat style.
Still beats buying a new one,

Hello Peter,
  • I had the exact problem with the stove on our 1981 30C. I read the details from suremarineservice.com and ordered the tiny orifice piece from them after troubleshooting. It cost more to ship than the part, but it solved the problem. I took the stove off the boat and hooked it up to a propane tank with a tailpiece that I bought at the hardware store, on a table outside. Don't do this inside your house or without open ventilation. I took the opportunity to really clean out the oven and take it apart a bit while I had it at home. The hole on the orifice is so small that you really can't clean in out. It turned out that the secondary pilot/igniter was not getting enough fuel to keep it lit, and it would go out before it could open the safety. Follow the directions from Sure Marine. You can test the system with a long lighter on the thermocouple to make sure that the secondary will light by keeping heat on the the tip of the thermocouple. It is all shown in the pictures. Total invested was about $20 including the tank connection piece. It makes it much easier to get the oven at eye level, off the boat, because the parts are a bit tricky to work on your knees on the boat. Plus, you can really get it clean without making a mess on the boat. Worth a try. Good luck!
