30B Three hose clamps

ddewolfe
Dave

ddewolfe

**Last week a loose hose clamp on the raw water hose leading to the heat exchanger caused a lot of water to get into the boat. This is my fifth marine diesel and the first time I have ever had to tighten a hose clamp. Turned out that ALL the clamps needed tightening!
Now it is in my do list to check clamps monthly.

Clanging at anchor

Procyon
Blake Payette N33 Brentwood Bay BC

Procyon

At a quiet anchorage this week the swell coming in from the Pacific caused quite a bit of rolling overnight and some mysterious noises, one of which was a muted clanging with two “notes”. A roll to port produced one note and a roll to starboard produced a slightly different sound but similar in tone. The sound is kind of like wood hitting the inside of a metal tube, a bell like tone. These seem to be coming from the mast area. My halyards are not causing it, and the upper choker block is padded and sounds different when lightly struck against the mast.

I am considering changing the location of the exhaust outlet from the stern to the starboard side of the hull to eliminate the stern’s diesel mustache. Has anyone else done that yet? My NS36 has it routed that way. Other than keeping it above the water line, any other suggestions or concerns?

Hello fellow Nonsuch Zealots,

I got my first one (Sabbatical) in 1985 and kept it a long time. Then I got a larger cruising boat, a J-37, and enjoyed it a lot. But I reverted about ten years ago when we got Sequel.

Given my advancing years, I sold the boat early this summer and have signed on as crew for a friend who got a Nonsuch after seeing ours in the mid-80s. I’ve enjoyed reading about your experiences and innovations. But with some regrets, I’d appreciate if you can take me off the mailing list. I’m swamped with emails.

Many thanks,

Mike Wheeler

Dinghy Davits Installation

Hi all, just joined this new discussion group! We have a NS30C (#40) and I just completed the installation of Atkins & Hoyle 2000 Fixed Davits. These are transom mounted with backing plates. I noticed that even with these backing plates there is a noticeable amount of flex in the transom and it is somewhat disconcerting. Has anyone else installed davits like these on their Nonsuch? (there must be!)? Did you add any additional support and how is it working out?

Winterizing in Maine

NickB
Nick Burnett

NickB

I have a Yanmar 3JH2CE engine with a Yanmar SD31 saildrive. The raw water enters from the saildrive through an attached seacock. I assume that after I haul the boat I can dis-attach the hose leading to the water filter, then join a hose to it that I can then put in a five gallon bucket so that I can run the engine. Change fuel filters, change oil and filter. This is my main question- about the raw water.
