I am wondering if anyone might have a list of the rigging, ( line diameters and lengths ) for the running rigging on a classic NS 26.
I need to replace, refit a boat and need reef line lengths, halyard, choker, choker control line. I saw there was a list floating around on the forum for the NS 30. I don't seem to have an owner's manual, I inherited the boat when my Dad passed and trying to upgrade some things. Thanks in advance for any help.

Peter, whatever the prescribed length in the manual of the main sheet , add  at least 10 ft so the boom can swing out more than 90 degrees which you will find beneficial.

Peter,
I have the manual that has the list of all the rigging lengths. Unfortunately it's not with me now. Should be able to get it to you by the weekend if you don't have it by then.

Here you go Peter, I have attached to page from the 26C Manual.
You will want to check since these are standard lengths. When Botts makes a sail he puts the leech cringles higher up on the sail to raise the back of the boom. This means you need longer leech reef lines.  If the standing part of the topping lift has been shortened you will need a longer running portion. Since the tackle usually is a 4:1 purchase you will need 4 feet of extra line for each foot that the standing line has been shortened. I think the system Murray Cressman recommended changed the purchase to 5:1 so again a longer line was needed. Occasionally there is miscommunication between boat owners and riggers so that when you tell them that the standing portion of the choker line is 9'6" they cut the line that long and after the eye splices go in the line is shorter which means of course that the running portion must be longer.

The manuals are on the INA web site, just log in and download what you need. They are in the Maintenance section.

In passing I use someting called  Regatta braid for a main sheet, works well...easy on the hands and does not hockle.

I know that some folks have gone to thinner lines for reefing (for example, 5/16 instead of 3/8) to reduce friction. Sounds like a good idea but I haven't tried it yet.

I did buy regatta braid last fall on sale to replace and lengthen my main sheet. I am eager to see how well I like it.

Some time ago when I replaced all the running rigging, I found significant discrepancies between the manual supplied with the boat and the actual length of the lines. So I took all the lines to the shop and had them duplicated, except for the Main Halyard which I lengthened by about 20 feet.

Doug.
