In the absence of a motor lift on the stern, what are some of the ways
that an outboard is raised from the stern motor mount and lowered to
the dinghy on a 30' Nonsuch? Although my motor only weighs 27 Lbs.
some mechanical advantage would be helpful in lowering and then
raising it off the dinghy since lowering has been the Admiral's job
and I'm usually in the dink awaiting the arrival of the outboard.
Welcome to the world of Nonsuch. Thanks guys for advice on this
situation unique to the Nonsuch.

I have davits for my dinghy mounted on my stern. With the dinghy in the
water, they also serve as tackle to raise and lower the motor.

Garhauer makes a nice motor hoist which is removable and disassembles
easily for storage. Can also be left in place if preferred. Somewhere
between $200 and $300. I used one on my last boat ('88 Pearson 31) and
liked it.

Joe and John,

Thanks for the prompt replies. I have been under the impression that
I should avoid having anything on the transom with the Nonsuch that
might interfere with the sheet when jibing. I like the idea of the
Garhauer motor Davit rather than davits which our local marina may
decide that my boat is now longer than 30' and the slip fee would be
raised. What size arm would you recommend? Those Nonsuchers that do
have davits or a motor davit , have you had any problems with the
sheet hanging up when jibing?

Hi Ron- The davits fold in and do not lengthen the boat unless the
dinghy is hanging on the then extended davits while cruising. They do
not lend themselves to hangups with the sheets. John

I installed a Fore Spar Nova lift on my 30U primarily to facilitate loading 120 lb 8A4D batteries for my electric propulsion system:
But, it is also useful for raising lowering outboards. I also find it useful to raise and lower buckets of tools and supplies when the boat is on the hard. So I don't have to carry them up with me when climbing the ladder.

I simple place an inexpensive block and tackle on my wishbone extension and lower and lift the outboard quite easily.

Hi

Go INA Web site.
general maintenance, installation ideas, , idea pages, motor hoist.

Important to have jam cleat at motor sling end of tackle.
This allows single handed operation from the dock pickup or
transom pickup. Only way to go !!!
