Hi Mike

Is this what you're looking for? A little verbose but Nonsuch PHRF numbers are at the end.

Cheers,

Nonsuch for Mackinac is 168. Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) is a handicapping system used in yacht racing. It allows dissimilar classes of boats to be raced against each other: the aim is to cancel out the inherent advantages and disadvantages of each class of boats, so that results reflect crew skill rather than equipment superiority.

PHRF is used mainly for larger sailboats (i.e. 7 meters and above). For dinghy racing , the portsmouth yardstick handicapping system is more likely to be used.

The handicap number assigned to a class of yachts is based on the yacht's speed relative to a theoretical yacht with a rating of 0. A yacht's handicap, or rating, is the number of seconds per mile traveled that the theoretical yacht should be in front of or behind that theoretical yacht. Most boats have a positive PHRF rating, but some very fast boats have a negative PHRF rating. If Boat A has a PHRF rating of 10 and Boat B has a rating of 20 and they compete on a 1 mile course, Boat A should finish approximately 10 seconds in front of Boat B. Results are adjusted for handicap by the race committee after all competitors have finished.

You also get a plus 6 if you have a fixed pitch prop so if you have a shoal draft, fixed pitch prop and a 30u like I do, your rating is 192. Which is fair on the upwind leg but very generous on the downwind!

Dictated to my iPhone 4S which still has not mastered the subtle aspects of a Scottish accent but should be able to get most of it right.

My rating with a pair of full battens and a folding prop was 219 as Chris
stated. When I switched to regular battens my rating went up to 225. Those
with fixed props, will have a different rating. They should let the prop
spin to reduce drag. Contrary to popular belief, allowing the prop to spin
will not overheat the gearbox (so I am told).

Where was your boat rated? My yacht clubs handicapper needs to know why you have a plus 200 rating!

Because it is a 26. In the first year or so I was new to PHRF and the race
committe put me down as a 30 and used the rating for 30s which are much
bigger boats. Please refer to Chris's e-mail for the the PHRF ratings.
