There is no safe alternative to a crane.
Most yards with a travel lift, which you will need anyway to put the boat in the water, have a boom attached to the travel lift which can do the job safely.
A Nonsuch unstayed mast is not the same weight as a stayed mast. I have a NS33, which is much bigger, but my mast is said to weigh 800 lbs and is unwieldy.
This is the wrong place to save money, unless you have a lot of life insurance and your spouse loves the new boat more than she loves you.

Good Luck on your new purchase. Where is it coming from and going to?
As a Nonsuch 22 owner, I highly recommend that you have a professional take care of your mast. If you need to cut back expenses, this is not the area to do it. These are heavy 40 foot masts and 2 or 3 guys without crane assist just aren’t going to hack it. It just is not worth the risk.
Take care!
Pictures attached of professionals installing my mast. Make darn sure the wishbone is in position properly.
