Global Sustainability Summer School: Technology for Sustainability
IBM and Universiti Brunei Darussalam invite applications for the 2011 Global Sustainability Summer School. A first of its kind in Asia, this event will bring together researchers from leading colleges and universities across the world as well as the Santa Fe Institute, New Mexico, USA, which has held previous Sustainability Summer Schools, to discuss technology for sustainability. Further details, including eligibility and application requirements, are presented below.
2011 Global Sustainability Summer School is organized jointly by IBM and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). As a part of their twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations, UBD is hosting this program at their campus in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.
This intense two-week (10 working days) program explores
sustainability from the technology perspective with a particular
focus on modeling and analysis.
Participants are expected to attend the program for the
full 10 days.
The school will provide a unique
opportunity for students and speakers across the globe to engage
each other in addressing the challenge of applying and adapting
broader principles of sustainability to locale-specific
solutions. The program will feature eminent speakers and there will
be an emphasis on the issues specific to the Asia-Pacific
region.
The program will include hands-on demonstrations, interactive
sessions, field trips (to a pristine rainforest region) and group projects in addition to
traditional lecture-style presentations. The overall structure, study topics and lectures will be similar to the previous Sustainability Summer Schools held at the Santa Fe Institute, New Mexico, USA. Please note that the
topics and format may be changed due to any unforeseen delays or other
issues. The students will implement their ideas to fruition in
the form of student projects and will also participate in a
series of debates during the event.
All activities will be conducted in English.
Costs
No tuition is charged, 100% of housing and meals are covered. Students are expected to provide their own travel funding. A few
travel scholarships may be awarded based on the needs and
availability of funds.
