Note before reading: In this message, I replace my real domain by
subdomain2.subdomain1.domain.com

I tried to install In-Portal 5.0.3 RC1 on 4th level domain
(subdomain2.subdomain1.domain.com). I chose Open Source license, and
then tried to enter subdomain1.domain.com as site domain. It said that
Domain name doesn't match one in license. However, when I entered
subdomain2.subdomain1.domain.com, it worked.

Hi Sergey,

Thanks for your note here. To be honest it's an option question whether we really should look at sub-match in domain names. We still check the licenses in cases when you have In-Commerce or In-Auction or it's for support purposes (users can upload the License).

I don't think you'll have any issues running the site later even if it's installed on the same domain you are running installation under, or there is anything else that will be broken in this setup?

Cheers!

No, I don't have any other issues, but this thing is confusing,
especially when I selected Open Source license and didn't upload
anything. I think that in Open Source license case domain shoudn't be
restricted to something at all, but this is discussable.

Hi Sergey,

Thanks for your further notes. I gave this a second thought and you
probably right - we should NOT restrict entering ANY domain name if
there is NO license present. To be honest for that reason we might
want to SKIP the whole domain selection because what's the point (it
should remain when license present). I have checked 2 different OS
script - WP and Drupal - none are even asking that info.

Guys, what do you think?

Yes, we can remove that step, when no license is uploaded.

When you don't have DNS entry yet and uses IP address to install In-Portal, then later he can change domain using installation maintenance step.

I agree on skipping this step, but we will need to specify domain name anyway, this info is used for global settings in DB, right?

This is used only for http:// <-> https:// redirects and is detected automatically based on url, used for In-Portal installation.

So we are okay to remove the Domain selection for No License installations? :)

Sergey - do you see a lot of issue with this?

Yes, we may remove this step at all. I don't see any issues with this.

then this step would appears only if a licence-module (like in-commerce and In-Auction) is found?

Correct Phil.

Okay guys, here is a task for this:

723: Skip "Select Domain" step when no License file uploaded

Hi guys,

waiting the patch to be released, I need to move an install from dev.
domain to production domain.
When I run the install script to update the domain, (only In-Link, no
commercial module), I let the checkbox on "GPL / Open Source License",
and on the next step I enter the new domain, and I have a "Domain name
entered does not match domain name in the license!".

Would the manual domain change in config.php be enought as workaround?

Thanks,
Phil.

That domain name only affects http:// -> https:// redirects as I've mentioned. No need to change it. When you move site to new domain, then just visit core/install.php script using new domain in url and it will detect it automatically.

Of course you can change "Domain" key in "config.php" file.

Here is a patch for this Issue, please review and test.

Please note that we have changed Originally created task so it's better addressed the issue.

Now it's called "Skip Domain name Validation for GPL license". Task description adjusted correspondingly.
