Hello,

in 510-RC1, I'm using a custom suggest link form, and I'm not able to use more than the default mutilingual text area used for Description.
Other text area of this type are displayed, form field value is correctly written, but absolutly no record in DB about them.

May I can show you with a try on Simone?

I've sent a private message to Dmitry for test purposes.

thanks.
Phil.

Hi Phil,

Did you actually have this problem in fresh installation of 5.1.0-RC1 or it's your custom form?

Please have a clean setup on your end (not Simone one) ready with clean Advanced.

I am not saying you don't have the problem. It's just easier to troubleshoot on the clean install then some custom form with hundreds of fields.

Hi Dmitry,

I clearly understand the use and logic of trying on a clean install - sometimes I even find the answer by myself by doing such tests :)

I've just tested now on my clean 510RC1 wamp, it does the same, using text field or text area. May I forgot something? Alex says it's obvious that it doesn't work...

To test, just copy the "Description" line in suggest_link.tpl, and of course change the field name with a custom field you have created for the purpose.

Phil.

Alex would you please run a quick test by yourself and do a task / fix for this in 5.1.0-RC1 if needed.

Thanks.

That's not a bug, as I've told. That's how it worked for years. Please see my previous posts about my opinion.

Thanks for clarifying on this.

Yes, I think we should move towards making Custom fields to behave the same way as regular fields. We just need to account for possible issues related to this change before we actually start doing it.

Where do we start here - new task for 5.2.0? Will you be able to document we need to change here (plan of work)?

This copy of my post, that was exactly before yours (5th post from the start):

Custom fields are pretty much different from other item fields. They even have separate control for entering values in other languages in administrative console.

We may think about making custom field integration in system more seamless as it is for now.

Since it's more a bug, then a feature, then any 5.1.* bugfix release will do. Also we must not forget other issues, that needs to be fixed and are already entered in issue tracker.

No big plan here:
  • front-end theme should work without need to to changed, e.g. <inp2:p_Field name="cust_Features"/> must work as before;
  • tag, like <inp2:p_Field name="l2_cust_Features"/> should also work.

well, it seems we agreed on the utility to make custom field working the same way as other ones, and because discussion have been closed without any real end, I wanted to recall it... and I'd need this option too :)
