Hello,

I've noticed that Alt fied is missing in forms.elm, on advanced theme.

I suggest to add line 253
<input type="text" name="<inp2:{$prefix}_InputName field="{$field}Alt"/>" value="<inp2:{$prefix}_Field field='{$field}Alt'/>" style="<inp2:m_param name="style"/>">

Hi Phil,

Please be more specific here. Not sure about ALT to do anything with Input field - provide more info.

Hi Dmitry,

this is a field used to give the file you are about tu upload an Alt value, used to display the download link. Actually, we don't have this input field and all files added from a form are called by default File1, File2...

Okay, I see what you me mean now.

There is more then just adding this to the template since I don't think there is a programming part done for this to work so we might need to create a Feature Request for this and schedule it some some new release.

Alex, can you check on PHP part of this?

Field "Alt" is only available for image uploads, since only images have "alt" attribute where such values is used.

For files we have "Filename" field which is populated with "File1", "File2", "FileN", depending on field, where file is uploaded.

However Image record in database have 2 fields:
  • Name
  • Alt
This way we need to:
  • add "Alt" field to files too (in database)
  • create corresponding File1Alt, File2Alt ... virtual fields for storing Alt
  • create processing code
Doesn't seem like a bug, more like a small feature.

well, if you edit a link item, just click on "Image" tab, you'll see
the Alt Column there, that's why I posted here about a bug... Am I
wrong?

Files are uploaded on one tab and Images on another tab during link editing. It's not a requirement of any kind for anything uploaded for a link to have "Alt" field.

Since you use that "File" upload for links on Front-End, then you think, that image-alike "Alt" field functionality could be useful for files too.

That's your opinion, we appreciate it, but that's not a bug of the "Files" tab if link, that it doesn't have "Alt" field, because you expect it to be there for you.

I'm not sure we understoud well each other, the "Alt' field IS present
actually in "Files" tab, this is a column, and also a field when you
edit an added file.
And if I edit the file, and I add an Alt field, this field is saved...

I've attached screenshot from link editing page ("Files" tab) in admin (In-Portal 5.1.1-B1). There is not "Alt" field there. There is no "Alt" field for "downloadable products" either. Only for images.

I think I've mistaken with another tab, then you are right, and I'd
then suggest this as a feature request, sorry for lost time !

in fact, I realize we can use the field "Name" to display the name we
want to give to the file.

For example, if you upload your pricelist, you would like the link to
be called "price list 2010" instead of "File1". The tag already exist
in link tpl, then we just have to put the field to fill the name on
file creation.

I think we must replicate same logic as for Image field:
  • Name - filled automatically by system (required)
  • Alt - filled by user (optional) and link/product name is displayed as "Alt", when not entered.

well, this is up to your decision. "Alt" value make sense for images
(and I use them for "title" field too), but not so much for links, no?

Maybe we should call it ShortDescription then for files.

I agree to this name, if you want to add a field.

No task here. We usally create a task, when discussion is finished. This means 2 things:
  • discussion not finished
  • or
  • subject isn't interested this much to start doing something about it

Dmitry, Alex, are you interested in ending this discussion with a task?

Hi Phil,

I see no problem with this task - it's just very low priority considering other things we are working on. This is more like adding a little decoration and probably needed just for your single project which fine with me! :)

You are free take over this discussion to properly finalize (ask questions, then summarize of what needs to be done) and file a new Feature Request in In-Portal Tracker. Please make sure to mark Target version as Future.

Cheers!

Hi Phil,

Thanks for submitting a new task!

Please make sure to properly Link (here and in task) your NEW Feature request with this discussion, otherwise we won't know where it came from. Just carefully look at any other task and it's discussion for an example.

Cheers!
