Revelation 22:10-21 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of
the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. “Let the one who does
wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and
let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the
one who is holy, still keep himself holy.” “Behold, I am coming
quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to
what he has done. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the
last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their
robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may
enter by the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs and the
sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters,
and everyone who loves and practices lying. “I, Jesus, have sent My
angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root
and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” The Spirit and
the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let
the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of
life without cost. I testify to everyone who hears the words of the
prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the
plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from
the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part
from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in
this book. He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming
quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with
all. Amen.
I am amazed how this challenging book of Revelations turned out not to
be as hard as I imagined because it is nothing but a revelation of
Jesus Christ who is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
This book has been used and still is used by several scholars to
predict the future (now mostly past) and to determine the Lord's
coming. There are other great scholars who have shown Revelation
reveal itself through the ages and trying to determine when the Lord
will return. However, we are reminded in verse 18 and 19 that we are
not to add or take away from these words because these are from God to
us. Also, we are not to belittle John or the words of this prophecy as
a dream and disregard them but accept them as God's word to us and
that we are to ask God for wisdom to reveal and He will do so.
What then is the purpose of this book if not for the doom and gloom,
pain and suffering and poetic words that make little sense?
Matthew 13:10-16 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You
speak to them in parables?” Jesus answered them, “To you it has been
granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it
has not been granted...
As Jesus revealed, his words were not spoken so that all may
understand but only the ones He calls to Him. This does not mean one
needs to be highly educated or a theologist but it simply means that
when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He reveals His word to
us through His Holy Spirit that resides in us directing and comforting
us.
As far as the doom and gloom and pain and suffering foretold, we must
always remember that we are the vine growers (Luke 20:9-16) who have
been given access to the vineyard called earth and we chose to beat,
kill and crucify God's servants and His own son to keep the land and
not pay our rent but God will avenge this travesty. Should He not?
We live in oblivion to a good and glorious God. A God who wants to
give us the water of life, a God who wants to enter into a
relationship with us and has gone to the extent of sacrificing His son
for us. To each of us, He calls us to COME into a relationship with
Him.
This is the last chapter of the book and the last chapter of the Bible
and as we have seen, it is the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ in
whom only is there hope, not just for now but for eternity.
