I'm unable to clear a Netflix show from the Continue Watching line on my Roku Ultra home screen. I've tried to use the asterisk button on the remote, but when I click on the "remove" option it doesn't do anything. I've tried a system reset, I've gone into Netflix and removed it from the Continue Watching section there. Nothing I've tried has fixed this. It appears on two TV's, both Roku Ultra's. Even the option to turn this line off would be useful. Any help would be appreciated.
A big Search box AND a Continue Watching line showed up when I decided to change my screen saver. I don't want either of these "features." And like you, the asterisk/options to remove shows from the list doesn't work. If I want to continue watching something, I'll open that app. I don't want/need Roku to "think" for me. I'm using two Roku sticks. If I'd realized what caused the problem on the one, I wouldn't have changed the other.
If you are not inside the Roku Channel, there may be a different way with different channels. Please be advised that some publishers control what constitutes content completion (for example, end credits are shown). The arrangement has been completed; the channel makes a delete request to remove the content from the Continue Watching row.
I'm referring to the base home screen that you're taken to to select apps or channels from. It's not within any app or channel. The shows that appear in the list are based on other apps (Disney, Netflix, etc) and can't be removed via the asterisk remove function.
Simply having the option to turn this function off would be ideal. I don't need or want the function, it's just another place that I have to pay attention to in order to keep the kids from getting at more mature content that they shouldn't be.
The Home Screen on both of my Roku Sticks now has a large Search Box AND a Continue Watching list - and I don't want either of them. All I did was change my screensaver, and voila, two new "features" on the Home Screen that I don't have control over.
The "Continue Watching" feature on the Roku home screen is part of the Roku Operating System; thus, removing it is impossible. Please be advised that some publishers control what constitutes content completion (for example, end credits are shown). Once the arrangement has been completed, the channel makes a delete request to remove the content from the Continue Watching row.
I was pleased to see that Chromecast added a feature to clear out the continue watching area as that has always seemed to fill up with things even though I have watched through. However, the "hide" feature does not work. The program in question just pops right back up a second after I hide it. I have tried clearing the cache. I have tried restarting the Chromecast device. I have tried hiding or removing the program from the actual app's history. None of that works. I don't understand how this is still a glitch when each individual app can delete a program from the viewing history. Is there a solution to this? All similar questions seem to get locked after they are told to just long press and hide, but that doesn't work, so what now?
Hey there,
I apologize about the late response on this thread, thank you for being patient! I was personally able to re-create this issue, so it may be an issue with Google TV UI. If your Chromecast's firmware is up-to-date, please submit feedback via Google TV to let the Google Engineering team know about this interaction. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about issues. The more feedback they receive, the higher priority the issue becomes.
Neither. The main for you page of the Chromecast home screen has a "continue watching" area. If you long press the tv show/movie, there is a "hide" option, only it hides nothing. The program sometimes remains there in the continue watching queue and sometimes disappears briefly, but reappears again. There's no way to truly clear out the continue watching queue. I personally have tried also clearing the programs from the queues in each individual app as well, but it still continues to show in the main Chromecast list.
No problem at all! Thank you for doing that, every bit of feedback that Google receives helps them narrow down, prioritize, and resolve issues. I'll keep this thread open a bit longer and follow-up with the others to see if anyone has any more questions.
I apologized about that. I already asked one of my colleagues from the Speakers and Display Community forum to reopen your thread to further assist you. Please revisit your thread and continue from there.
Just checking in to make sure that you've seen my response. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours if I won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.
You're welcome! Since you don't have any more questions and we also haven't received any update from the other users, I'll consider this as complete and I'll lock this thread. If you have any new issues, updates or just a discussion topic, feel free to start a new thread in the community.
@Daddymae Removing unwanted programmes from the Continue Watching rail is my biggest complaint with Glass / Stream. There are different ways to remove items depending on what you are trying to remove. Some need to be done on your laptop and others on Sky stream. Some just don't seem to removable and /or keep reappearing every time a new episode records (Ch4 is very bad for this).
I never look at continue watching as it contains so much junk that I have watched for a few minutes and abandoned, unfortunately Sky also uses this info for recommendations so if you look at junk you get recommendations for more junk.
Is nobody from Sky going to provide an update as to when this issue will be resolved and there is a proper way of managing the CW list? Its evident from the postings and questions on the Internet that this is actually something that Sky Stream customers want and need (without fast forwarding through an entire season, particularly when this doesn't always work)
Generally you don't need to run through every episode in a series just the episode you are watching and then the last episode of the series. Mind you I have on occasions had to run through each episode
I still find it very disappointing that Sky don't listen to their customers and don't see optimising customer experience as a priority and don't realise that 'smnall things matter' when customers have a choice.
The continue watching issues have been raised numerous times by superusers .... I believe it's quite a complicated function as it's drawing meta data not just from sky servers but also the plethora of other catchup services.
If its because its linked to the other apps, e.g iPlayer, surely if I removed it from CW on the parent (iplayer) it wouldn't appear in my Sky Stream CW list. Surely there is easier functionality that could be added to the Sky User Interface, like Netflix, iPlayer etc that will allow the user to hide or remove? (After all its just a link)
The removing it from your iplayer continue watching can get a bit more complicated as the continue watching rail on the sky UI seeming covers shows you have watched from the sky device so if you went and watched episode one of a new show on iplayer via a phone or tablet it wouldn't be recognised on the sky continue watching rail.
I would certainly think sky could offer a hide functionality on their UI for shows on the continue watching rail and that is metadata being used purely for the Sky UI. Some sort of simple flagging mechanism could be used for it to k ow
@Dords even with my how to do it list it can still be hit and miss. The only saving grace is if you leave them long enough they will eventually drop off the end of the CW rail. The whole process is very frustrating.
I've yet to figure out how or why, but i've actually had 1 ITV X show, disappear from my CW rail, despite the fact i haven't done the trick of playing the current and last episode to make it disappear.
@MarkGoldsmith totally agree, however had some success, and it took many times and some luck to get it to work. It seems to work if you fast forward on the last episode until just after the last adverts and then let it run until the end (remembering to catch it before it automatically starts playing another TV show). Sometimes it works if you fast forward 5 mins after the last episode and sometimes 10 mins.
From the general main screen from your Apple TV go first to Settings, the icon with the cogs. There you will find the menu item Apps. On the next screen just under APP SETTINGS, choose TV. And there you have it: Use Play History.
this is the most frustrating streaming app, it refuses to start from where I was watching.. And yes I've tried your "Apple suggestion" continue from the play next option but no that DOES NOT WORK. If walk away from the TV for a bit the screen will fall asleep and there goes my spot on the show I was watching... This has had happened so many times it makes me not want to use Apple TV. I've been trying to watch after party and keep having to fast forward and find out where I'm at while accidentally ruining future scenes for myself..
