Technical Group Scope

To work with service providers, vendors and applications development communities The Working Group supports the development of IMS applications and services including Voice over IP and Voice over LTE, SMS, Security, OSS/BSS, QoS and to deliver end-user quality experiences that are consistent across both fixed and mobile networks,. The group defines and tests new services supported by innovative business models for all-IP networks. As part of this Technical Working Group (TWG) we also will look at the integration of the Operations Support Systems and Business Support System (OSS/BSS) including Billing/Charging and Security components.

Tasks

This NGN IMS Forum (www.NGNForum.org) Technical and Business Working Group (TWG) will focus on the following items:

a)      Network Architectures and Operations

This TWG will define methods for migration to Next Generation Network (NGN) / IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)  The TWG will also look at how to open up networks to support innovative business models (e.g. cloud / smart grid technologies) can be integrated with the ‘all-IP’ business model.

Service architectures under consideration will include::

·       IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)

·       3G, 4G (LTE)

·       Service Delivery Platform (SDP) following Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) principles

·       Telco 2.0 / Web 2.0

·       IP BSS & Security

b)      Applications and Service Delivery

Examples of applications this TWG include:

·       VoLTE (Voice over LTE)

·       Messaging, including Short Message Service (SMS) and SMS / Instant Messaging (IM) interworking as defined by 3GPP

·       Rich Communications Suite (RCS), Rich Multimedia Suite (RMS)

·       Unified Communications

·       M2M

·       Social networking

·       IP Video applications

·       Voice 2.0 combining voice, data, video and instant messages via IP

c)      Testing, Interoperability and Plugfests

The TWG will focus on building interoperability and managing Plugfest 9 and 10 events, as well as developing supporting business models for operators.

As part of this work item, this TWG will define a testing strategy (end-to-end or device testing), select testing interfaces/protocols, and define test plans possibly in collaboration with ETSI. This TWG will also look at applications testing such as SMS. Test cases will be defined to demonstrate that legacy SMS as well as "evolved SMS" both coexist and interoperate.

Liaisons

This TWG may liaise with leading industry groups:

·       OASIS and W3C on Service Delivery Platform, GSMA, TM Forum for the integration of OSS/BSS and Service Delivery Framework (SDF), 3GPP/ETSI, Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and IETF on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), applications and service delivery, GSMA, Fixed Mobile Convergence Forum, Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) Alliance, IMTC and others

Sample list of initial companies working in this TWG

T-mobile, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, MU Dynamics, IP Gallery, Tekelec, Sonus, HP, Tektronix, Symantec, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Acision, Aricent, Mavenir ….
