Set variables via http instead of https

I'm planning to trigger my actions from an ESP8266. For various reasons, it would simplify things greatly if I could set my variables true/ false via http calls rather than https. Is there any way to do so?

It's done with https for security reasons, so that the request goes on the network encrypted.
