1. How do I get my name on messages instead of “by me”
2. My SD card problem is now fixed. How do I get to the GUI on my laptop?

Thanks

Hey John,

#1 as to google groups, I don't know. My normal "mode" is corporate email with outlook. With groups and gmail I'm all thumbs. Sometimes I'm replying to all, and other times I'm just emailing the individual.

#2 Is you whole kit built?? I started with the usb cable into my laptop and ran Tera Term. I had to look in my windows device settings to find what port it installed the usb on. The when you first fire up Tera Term is will be at 9600 baud. Change it to 15,200 and you'll see the logs. Maybe you've already done that??

Then the unit will start creating and broadcasting itself as an access point. You if you scan your WiFi list on you laptop, you'll see something like imsai8080 as an access point. click and log on to it the ssid password, is password. the open a browser and if on a pc, go to 192.168.4.1 it will open the gui. If on a mac, If on a mac, type imsai8080.local in the browser window..

After you are into the gui, you can open the sys: and edit the name in the datat in the SSID and PASSWORD location to your wifi. The if you do the reconfiguration with the reset switch and switch 3 is up, it will connect to your WiFi and if your laptop is on the same wifi, you can access it with the rest of your network. I had to run a port scanner to find out it's ip address as I have some 25 ip addresses handed out.

So, did you receive the plastic blocks to align up the LED's. or are you still building??

Good Luck

"How do I get my name on messages instead of “by me” "

It always shows "by me" when the person reading the post is the same one who sent it. Rest assured that everyone else sees your posts as "John Durgan". If you log out of gmail then look at the group, you will see your posts as other people see them, however you won't be able to post again until you log back in.

The "by me" is a proverbial "feature" built into Google Groups. There's no way around it.

"My SD card problem is now fixed.  How do I get to the GUI on my laptop?"

1) Start up the IMSAI 8080

2) Redirect the laptop's wireless to the IMSAI8080 wifi network. It's a password-protected SSID, but the password is by default "password".

3) Start up a web browser on the laptop.

4) Use some permutation of "IMSAI8080.local" or 192.168.4.1 (or 192.168.4.2) as the URL in the web browser.

The web GUI should now show up in your laptop web browser.

This is the ONLY place I finally found out what the password is for the wifi network.  It would sure be nice if it was mentioned in the construction guide where it has you test it, which just says to connect to the IMSAI8080 network but never mentions a password.  And there's another place on the site that talks about it too, but still no password.  This was my only point of frustration with the guide.

The password is mentioned in the configuration guide here:

OK, I see it now -- but I haven't gotten that far.  Just going thru the assembly guide, and the testing step doesn't say there's a password required, and doesn't have a link to configuration.  Just says to connect and open Chrome to view the desktop.
