It's been identified that owing to changing tolerances with the thickness of some of the acrylic parts, spacers and the LEDs
To resolve this I will instead be supplying a (clear) 2mm thick LED spacer in all kits that ship after today, 28 July 2020.
For people that have not yet built their kits, or for the brave that have already built their kit but think it would be improved by lowering the LEDs by one (1) millimetre, I have attached cutting pattern for (both) the LED Spacer and Switch Alignment Guides.
For correct scale, the dimensions of the two parts in the attached SVG are as follows:
- upper part - the LED spacer - 132.102 x 22.552 mm
- lower part - the LED alignment tool - 132.102 x 24.552 mm
A few folks have asked for other options than SVG, so I've also attached DXF files for the 2 part separately, and an STL of the LED Spacer, extruded to 2mm thick.
This gives you the choice of:
- using the pattern to laser cut your own LED spacer from 2mm thick acrylic
- 3D printing an LED spacer to your preferred thickness
- printing the pattern on paper to use as a template to cut some card (or layers of card) to make your own makeshift spacer
Remember this is only a spacer to get a consistent height on your LEDs, it is not a permanent part of the finished kit.
I think you could also just solder the LEDs down against the PCB (but also using the alignment guide with the 8 round holes) and you wouldn't know the difference.
I'm sorry that this problem developed and has driven some people to source longer M4 Hex Socket Screws and nylon spacers.
