Hi everyone!

I just received my kit in the mail last Thursday. I have everything soldered in place except the switches. So far it all tests out and works. The machine boots and loads the SD card and PSRAM and all the LEDs work. I am super excited to get the switches in place and start learning about this machine interface.

One question I have already: I am using an iMac with Mojave installed and I can load the Desktop UI with all icons and everything seems to work great on Google Chrome browser, but the Safari browser only shows the Desktop background without any icons or windows. Is this a known issue that the Desktop UI is not supported on Safari? I searched the forum but all I came up with is a few threads about people being able to run the UI from Safari on an iPhone and people being able to run it from the new Chromium-based Edge browser in Windows.

Is there a list of verified compatible browsers or does everyone just use Chrome?

Yes, it won't work with Safari, you need to use Chrome. Also Firefox works to some degree, but that
is not guaranteed.

It is mentioned on the website for the IMSAI8080esp, in the paragraph immediately above this link https://thehighnibble.com/imsai8080/#availability
Only Chrome is supported. FireFox may work. Safari does not work.

Microsoft Edge probably also works but I don't have a Windows 10 machine to test it on.

Thank you both for the reply. I did see in the instructions where it said to test it with Chrome. I guess I missed the part you mention that Safari and Firefox does not work. No worries.

@thehighnibble Any chance you could improve the Safari support? Most things do work, however resizing CRT windows seems borked.

PS, I refuse to install Google Spyware on my Mac, it's bad enough that they have access to a decade of my emails.

I won't be improving what isn't there. As stated on the website and earlier posts on this thread: Safari is not supported.
This might make some people unhappy, but it is a problem caused by Apple and their reluctance to follow the de-facto standards established by the other major browser vendors.
  • Chrome is the only officially supported browser
  • Because of the decision by Microsoft to base Edge on Chromium, Edge appears to also work well but isn't officially supported
  • Firefox also appeared to work, but I'll be honest and say it's been a long time since I last tried Firefox so I won't go as far as saying it is recommended or supported

Fair enough, I use Firefox and chrome on my work Mac, but safari for personal browsing.

I’ll try Edge as these days I find MS to be more trustworthy that Google (never thought I’d say that!).

Cheers Derek

Just so that Derek doesn’t feel alone ; I also feel that the lack of safari support is a problem ;
You can hardly ignore the Mac/iOS user base nowadays ; especially as it counts for more half of the mobile market in the US ( for example )

Of course it’s written on the web page that is isn’t supported ; but if it could be one day ; that would be much appreciated .

On OSX I usually use Firefox because Safari causes various problems, and this problems need to be solved by Apple,
pointless to complain here.
For usage of the IMSAI's I have installed Google Chrome, but use it only to connect to the IMSAI's, nothing else, so
whatever questionable things Google is trying to do inside this is quite limited and I doubt they find anything interesting
when connected to my IMSAI's :-)
