  • My drag and drop onto SYS: does not seem to work. I am I missing something in the drag and drop? I am dragging from a windows explorer and trying to drop it over the SYS: icon. When I do this Chrome asks me to save the file to a local drive. The UI does not seem to recognize when a file is dragged over the icon.

  • Is there an alternative to doing upgrading the firmware?

Ken,
I've seen drag-and-drop fail for mounting disks (fixed in the Desktop UI beta) because of a 3rd party Chrome extension.

Can you disable your extensions, or try logging in to Chrome with the Guest account to ensure nothing "extra" in enabled.

Note, there are no guarantees the Desktop UI will work unless you are using Chrome, other browsers are not supported (although Edge appears to work, Firefox is usually OK but I haven't checked it out lately and Safari is known NOT to work well)

Right now the only other method of performing a firmware upgrade is with the command line utility esptool.py from espressive , over a USB cable. This is described in the file FLASHING.md that accompanies the firmware on GitHub in the FIRMWARE.zip file

Sometime this weekend I will set-up an easier method for flashing over the USB cable, directly from thehighnibble.com website, if you can wait that is.

I sent an email on the other thread that I have updated the firmware from your imsai.py command line tool . Worked great. Then I also did the upgrade to the SD card (manually moved the files over to the SD card) and did some config tweaking. Everything works, I have the Tektronix plots running.

Dragging and dropping files inside the UI on to the disks works, no issues there.

Dragging files from windows explorer to the SYS: also works. It may be more of a location of the drop, It will either drop or open the file. There is no indication when the file is over the icon that it will accept drops. Perhaps it was me all along with not dropping on the proper location. Seems that one needs to drop the files closer to the top of the icon. I did disable all the Chrome stuff and retried the also signed back in and both work. I dropped in a number of locations and that is how I found where I need to place the cursor in order to have it work.

OK, there should be a "+" on the mouse-pointer when you are in the drop-zone.
I know there is when you drop a disk image on a floppy drive.

I'll look into this and see if it is something I can fix before this BETA closes and goes into production.

Yes, I do get the cursor change when dropping a disk onto a floppy, not dropping a file onto SYS:
