Ok, tried (and failed) to edit this one too.
1. onegaishimasu can be used at the beginning of class during the bow
in and before beginning sparring with your opponent, not necessarily
before each question.
2. Hai is also an affirmative, which is used to show that you
understand what you've been told or to answer your instructor's
question in the affirmative.

I made those changes. It seems like Google's Group server may have
been having some issues today...the Discussion summary went down for a
few minutes earlier, and I lost my connection to the server while
editing this page.

hehe i found something cool, this is from the old unm karate club
website: http://web.archive.org/web/20011206221452/www.unm.edu/~karatedo/dojo.html

we should say something about tying/adjusting your belt. cuz, doing so
is kinda like... uh... zipping your pants or something. you should
face the back of the class, away from everyone else if possible.

oh, and. maybe we should put just specific things on this page and
keep asides and discussion stuffs out here. that way we can use this
page as the "final" version (in progress) of the etiquette document in
the packet.

we should decide whether we want to buy a frame and copy the shoshin
nagamine pic for intersession for the founder thing

I think we should definitely do the Nagamine thing--we just need to
make sure it's okay with Cynthia and/or Sensei if he's going to come.
I can definitely do that if no one else is able to (though I'll have
to take it with me when I fly back to IL for Intersession--hopefully
it survives).

I agree with keeping discussion in the comments, or even in other
discussion threads! That's what they're there for.

I like the link you sent out---I've copied it to a word document so
we'll have it forever, and maybe we can tailor it to fit the IMSA
Karate Club and have that be an introductory page in the packet.

from Cynthia:

In regard to addressing instructors, alumni, and higher ranks, I
strongly feel that we must use the word "sir" or "ma'am". This is
respectful and goes hand-in-hand with making the karate club
environment more traditional in nature. I further recommend a list of
"dojo rules", which include the following:
-Students must bow to the flags, instructors, and all other high
ranking belts when entering or leaving the dojo
-Students must always respect and obey the instructors and all other
high ranking belts
-Students must use the word "sir" or "ma'am" when speaking to the
instructors or other high ranking belts
-When the instructors enters the dojo, the highest ranking belt must
call the class to attention and have the class bow
-There should be an absence of unnecessary conversation in the dojo
-When a student must leave the dojo during training, he or she must
first receive permission from the instructors
-The dojo must always be kept clean.

In regard to getting a frame picture of Nagamine for the front of the
dojo, I believe it is a worthwhile pursuit and I am willing to support
efforts in acquiring one. The only criteria I have is that the
resolution of the picture be appropriate for the size that we want; I
don't want any blurry pictures.
