And the visitors approach. Director Krennic flanked by his Death Troopers. Why does on officer need so much security when approaching an isolated settlement which only a couple of inhabitants? Is he expecting trouble?
How long has Galen been working with the Empire, is this a flashback or present day? He seems proud to be wearing the uniform. Is he displaying his work to Krennic or someone higher? Has he been indoctrinated by the Empire?
Every shot of the Death Star we have seen so far has been beautiful. Gareth Edwards can do scale like no other director I have seen. The huge shape of the station in a high orbit around this planet, partially blurred by the atmosphere is just breath taking.
Jyn inspires her men to continue their mission, Chirrut Imwe seem rather happy about something that nobody else does! The emphasis on this being a war film is perfectly displayed by the man close quarters shots and feeling of vulnerability as men on foot go up against the Imperial war machine.
Now the action starts! Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus take one a whole group of Stormtroopers and come out on top. Is this before or after they are part of the rebel team? There is a crashed X-wing behind Baze so maybe this is during the huge fight that is ure to happen before the end of the film.
At risk of being universally hated, this looks an awful like a Trade Federation battle station! Forget I said that! A return to some classic Star Wars space combat with X-wings attacking some kind of space station. Is this a construction yard for the Death Star? Are the rebels trying an attack on several fronts at once?
K-2SO is going to be a new fan favourite. Voiced by Alan Tudyk and with a flawed sense of humour re-programmed Imperial Security droid is going to get his mechanical hands dirty as we see him controlling a ship to shoot lasers at some approaching Stormtroopers,
Does Vader have his own smoke machine? Almost all of his screen appearances have been shrouded in mist! He looks pissed, which is strange to say about a man whose face is completely obscured. Has Krennic mess up? The way Vader is pacing towards him suggests someone is about to feel grip of the force! Maybe this is Krennic telling Vader that the plans to the Death Star have been stolen!
The trailer was awesome, nobody can argue with that. There are a lot of familiar Star Wars themes and homages to previous films but mixed with just the right amount of new things. It feels like Star Wars, it looks like Star Wars. The fans are going to be very happy!
So the first trailer for the first star wars spin off came out today, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Purely from our shared love of Star Wars this trailer has spawned a new segment called Trailer Talk. Here we will take a look at the latest trailers and give our initial thoughts.
The first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hit the Internet on Thursday, and it's full of all the Stormtroopers, battle scenes and plucky heroes that we have come to know and love in our Star Wars movies. But if you're just a little confused about where exactly this movie falls in the greater world of Star Wars movies (and what exactly is going on in the trailer), never fear. Here are the five things you need to know before you start obsessively watching the trailer over and over again.
Rogue One is the first of a few planned "anthology" Star Wars movies that take place in the universe but aren't part of the central "Episode" story. So we're still in that galaxy far, far away, but we're not hanging with the Skywalker clan this time around. It's Guardians of the Galaxy to the Avengers movies. It's in the same world, but, it's not the same story, necessarily.
So where does it fit in the wider Star Wars universe? Just a second before we meet Luke, actually. Rogue One is about the Rebel Alliance team that stole the plans for the Death Star, that Luke later used to blow it up in A New Hope. So fans will recognize the original Stormtrooper uniforms, the original Rebels and Empire all back once again.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet your new obsession: Jyn Erso. That's the hero Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones will be playing in the movie. Joining Jones are Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, and Forest Whitaker, so suffice to say the cast is stacked. Although we don't know exactly who everyone's character is yet, from the trailer we can assume Mendelsohn is playing an Empire official of some kind (did you see his awesome cape, tho) and Luna appears to be the Han to Jones' Luke. But it's not just new characters to contend with, we've got one very exciting returning face...
Rey was only the beginning, it seems. In just a short teaser trailer, Jones' Jyn has already become a Star Wars hero to hold on to. From what we can see of her in the teaser, she's young, scrappy and hungry, a great fighter with just a touch of an attitude. We are already rooting for her, and wherever her journey takes us. In a franchise that has offered us great, but few, female heroes over the years, getting two in a row is an incredible feeling for fans, especially ones who can only dress up like Princess Leia so many Halloweens in a row. Bonus: Fans won't have to look hard to see if the movie passes the Bechdel Test. The trailer does it in its first 30 seconds.
I have the trailers which accompanied The Force Awakens, Rogue One and The Last Jedi.
Online, I found a list which accompanied The Phantom Menace.
Does anyone know, or can it be determined, which trailers accompanied Star Wars (original theatrical run), The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi (the original THX intro), Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith? The Clone Wars animated movie?
The trailer for Like Mike played in front of my opening day screening of AotC. I only remember that because a friend joked as we were leaving the theater during the end credits that AotC had no chance of beating its box office.
For AOTC special trailers (for DTS and/or THX) it turns out that it was most likely this DTSSONIC and perhaps instead or also one called vaguely DTS (need to look into this DTS labelled one more):

The AOTC feature itself has Minority Report directly on Reel 1 itself at the start.
The Cinema DTS disc for it also lists:
sandrew (not sure if this is a trailer for a movie or something else, the other stuff all looked to be THX/DTS/various cinema snipes and stuff, maybe this is too)

Tonight yet another Star Wars game was revealed, this time coming from Lucasfilm (but they all come from them, technically) and Ubisoft. Star Wars Outlaws is, being an Ubi game, an open world adventure where you play as Kay Vess - the Han-Solo-but-a-girl I reference in my headline - and Kay's best alien pal Nix "as they attempt one of the greatest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen." Outlaws was revealed tonight at the Xbox Games Showcase with a trailer that had an extended opening metaphor bit about gambling that was trite enough for me to assume it was a trailer for the Quantic Dream Star Wars game. BUT. I do like the look of Outlaws (currently slated for 2024).
In fairness it actually is kind of a move to make a Star Wars rogue (TM) be a lady, because almost all of the recent mainstream Han Solo rip-offs have been bros (although the games do like a gal from the wrong side of the tracks). Kay is offered the chance of a lifetime by a sinister man called Jaylen, who has big "curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!" vibes even from the few seconds he's in the trailer. It's set during a time that the Galactic Empire is hunting down the Rebel Alliance, which means probably some time in or around the original trilogy era.
Elsewhere we have all the Star Wars hits: a rancor, spaceships, some kind of droid, looking through one of those boxy viewfinder things... There's no actual footage of the game in action in this trailer, and I can only speculate that Nix, who is one of those little guys who looks like a dog crossed with an axolotl, will be able to climb stuff or go through little holes or what have you. But I won't have to speculate for long, because more will be shown at Ubisoft Forward (which is on from 6pm BST/10am PST tomorrow).

The shot above is not from the version of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that you'll see in theaters. It's no secret that Rogue One went through an extensive set of reshoots, which very likely led to a better movie. After seeing the film for the first time, I was amazed at how much footage and dialogue in the trailers and marketing wasn't in the film itself.
In fact, the first Rogue One teaser trailer is comprised almost entirely of footage that wasn't in the finished film. Some of it is completely different, while other parts are alternate takes and altered dialogue. Iconic lines that were part of the marketing campaign (like "I rebel!") are nowhere to be found in the completed film. Heck, even the imagery of Stormtroopers patrolling in knee-deep water used in most of the poster and billboard advertising isn't in the finished film.
The curious part of me wonders what Rogue One was like before the reshoots. What was changed in the process? We might not know the answers to these questions for a while, but I think, looking back at the marketing, that we can find some clues in the unused shots from the trailers. So join me as we adventure through the Rogue One trailers in an effort to decipher this mystery.
Instead of going through each trailer by itself, I decided to order these shots chronologically in the order that they probably would have appeared in the movie. Below you can see the more prominent examples of the Rogue One missing trailer footage alongside my musings on what this tells us about the original cut of the film. Obviously, don't read this article unless you've seen the film as massive spoilers follow.
