Welcome to this newly formed web group, " IMRC Health Initiative"
developed to keep you informed of the progress of IMRC's healthcare
project in Hyderabad. This is a brief outline of the project for those
of you that were not present at our first meeting just before the ISNA
convention.
The project consists of two arms -
Multiple (10-12) satellite clinics in the poor neighborhoods of
Hyderabad.
A large, multispecialty clinic in Malakpet.
The satellite clinics will be staffed by a doctor, nurse, Public
Health worker, and a basic lab. In addition to seeing patients free or
at low cost, the Public health worker will do a demographic survey of
the area, collecting important data re size of families, incomes,
chronic diseases in the family, etc. There will be a strong emphasis
on public health teaching in the community, screenings for
immunization status, nutritional deficiencies including iron
deficiency anemia, Hypertension, Diabetes, and Tuberculosis. Free
immunizations, Iron supplements, antenatal care and Tuberculosis
medications will be dispensed. The computerized data collected can be
used to apply for grants locally and here in the US. Complicated cases
will be referred to the multispecialty clinic in Malakpet. We have
identified 3 existing clinics in Shakargunj, Mughalpura and Malakpet
which will be developed first, with other clinics added in various
locations over the next 2 years.
The multispecialty clinic is a planned, 5-floor, 30,000 sq ft
structure with an emphasis on treating Diabetes and it's
complications. It will have primary care M.D.s, including an OB Gyn
and Pediatrician, a full lab, radiology including CT and ?MRI, a full
dialysis unit, minor OR, a cardiologist, cardiac cath unit and other
specialties like Ophthalmology, Orthopedics and an Asthma clinic. The
services will be free or low cost to patients referred from the
satellite clinics, and competitively priced for the general public to
generate and support needy patients. The construction for the clinic
has already started, with the 2nd floor slab being just laid. The
completion date for the project is in 2 years.
This is a very ambitious project and would benefit the poor
tremendously. It needs your duas, moral and financial support to make
it successful, Insha'Allah. Those of you who had made pledges at our
last meeting, please avail the opportunity of sadaqa e jaariya in this
blessed month of Ramadan. Those of you not present at the meeting,
please donate generously. Please also spread the word around and let me
know if you want your friends and family added to this group.
