Cannot execute imposm binary on iMac

I am setting up my iMac to load OSM to postgres and found imposm as the current solution. However, I need advice how to get past this problem.

Steps

1. downloaded the binaries to Downloads folder: imposm-0.10.0-linux-x86-64.tar.gz, referred to a https://github.com/omniscale/imposm3

2. start the application like this: ./imposm import -help but gives error: -bash: ./imposm: cannot execute binary file

3. look at permissions. Appears to be executable:

-rwxrwxr-x@ 1 kjum  staff    22M Dec  5  2019 imposm

4. Mac About: Mac OS Catalina, V10.15.5

Q: Does the linux binary not run on my Mac? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you Eric. To be clear, before downloading the binaries I did find your post AND did try the steps in the https://github.com/omniscale/imposm3.

In both cases I got a compile error. I did not want to state two problems at once.

BTW - you'll note that (below) install uses 'cmd/imposm' and not 'cmd/imposm3' as documented in your blog. Apparently imposm was renamed.

Here is the compile error. I searched for geos_c.h in the github repo, but none was found. So I thought to try the binary download but in both cases I am at an impasse.

go install github.com/omniscale/imposm3/cmd/imposm
   # github.com/omniscale/imposm3/geom/geos
   go/src/github.com/omniscale/imposm3/geom/geos/coords.go:5:10: fatal error: 'geos_c.h' file not found
   #include "geos_c.h"
            ^~~~~~~~~~
   1 error generated.
