Beta version 0.1.162 of Import Google Tasks is now available for
testing at https://import-tasks.appspot.com/

Please test and provide feedback :-)

Import Google Tasks has many options for how tasks will be
imported, but in all cases, the original tasklist groupings are
retained for imported tasks.

Unfortunately, creating Google tasks is quite a slow
operation, usually only creating around 2-3 tasks per second, so a
little patience is required. Also, since import-tasks is running on
my personal AppSpot account, Google sets a daily limit of 5000 tasks,
so an import job may not complete. However an import job can be
manually continued once the quota has been reset, by logging in again
after midnight Pacific Standard Time.

Thanks a lot for this new feature. Is there already an automatic task
exporter that gives the proper CSV format for import-tasks ? I tried
with no luck with the raw csv setting from tasks-backup, it seems
there are unnecessary columns in this format.
Thanks again.

Hi Eric,

At this stage, only the new beta version of Google Tasks Backup creates the correct "Import/Export CSV" format.

The new GTB is currently available at js-tasks.appspot.com and will be migrated to the main site once GTB testing is complete.

Cheers,

Julie

Thank you so very much ! It worked near perfection. The only problem
was with a task name containing an @, so there was a character
conversion error, but after having replaced this char in the CSV, I
could get all my tasks with their proper indent and status. This tool
is really great !

Yes, this worked for me as well.  I transferred all Tasks from my personal Gmail account to a Google Apps account with these steps:

EXPORT
(1) Use *Beta* Tasks backup: https://js-tasks.appspot.com  (It didn't work with tasks-backup.appspot.com)
(2) Be sure to export with "Import/Export GTBak"

IMPORT
(4) I used "Import tasklists, original names" (I didn't try any other settings)

Voila!

Thanks,
David

I have uploaded a new version of Google Tasks Backup to tasks-
backup.appspot.com which can export in the recommended GTBak format.
GTBak should exactly duplicate all international, special and extended
characters in tasks and tasklists.

The Import/Export CSV format is not recommended, especially if tasks
or tasklist names may contain international or extended characters.
The only advantage that the Import/Export CSV format offers is that it
can be edited by a text editor such as Notepad++ before uploading. Do
not edit the CSV with a spreadsheet program, as that almost always
results in some of the content being corrupted.

Cheers,

Julie

The URL for GTB was split by the Groups software. The correct URL is
http://tasks-backup.appspot.com

Thanks a lot Julie.

I massivelly use Google task and i had to move a very big and hierachical list from an account to an other.
process used :

export from soure account : https://tasks-backup.appspot.com/
import to destination account : https://import-tasks.appspot.com/
dispatch one big list to some others created lists easily: https://mail.google.com/tasks/canvas

Those Import/export tools are unique.

Hi Simon,

Thank you for the positive feedback. It is always nice to know that GTI and GTB helps other people; that makes all the effort worthwhile.

Cheers,

Julie
