I used your very fine tool to export my tasks from Outlook into my Gmail account.  It appeared to work correctly but I can’t find the tasks in m Gmail account.  Please let me know your thoughts and thank you VERY much.

Best,

Bill

Hello Bill,

Which method did you use to import your tasks? Which method are you using to view your Google tasks?

Unfortunately, in many views (such as Calendar and Gmail) Google only displays tasks in the default Tasklist, so unless you elected to export all your tasks to the default Tasklist, and again to import into the default Tasklist, the imported tasks may not appear in the standard Google view (such as in Gmail).

If you go to
do you see the imported tasklist(s) there on the left hand side?

Regards,

Julie

Hi Julie,

I have a similar issue. My goal is to move my tasks (in multiple lists) from one google account to another. I used the tools to Export (as GTbak) and then import into the new account. I can see the tasks via the https://mail.google.com/tasks/canvas - but they don't show up on my Calendar page. Any help appreciated. thank you!

Hello,

Unfortunately, Google Calendar only displays tasks that are in your default tasklist.

The default tasklist is the first tasklist that is created when your Google account is created. The default tasklist can have any name, and is often (but NOT always!) the first tasklist shown on the left hand side at https://mail.google.com/tasks/canvas [1]

Due to a limitation imposed by Google, GTI is unable to overwrite the default tasklist [2]. The best that GTI can do is to append imported tasks to the existing default tasklist. This can be achieved by the following steps;
  1. Change the name of the default tasklist in the destination account to match the name of the default tasklist [1] in the source account
    1. To change the name of a tasklist, click on the icon to the left of the tasklist name at https://mail.google.com/tasks/canvas and select the "Rename List" option
  2. Run GTI with the "Add tasks to existing tasklists" option
  3. Imported tasks will be added to any existing tasks in existing tasklists. New tasklists will be created if they don't already exist

NOTE: This will still only result in the tasks in the default tasklist being displayed in Calendar, as that is a limitation of Google Calendar - the calendar will ONLY display tasks in the default tasklist.

[1] There is one definitive way to determine which is your default list;
  1. Click the icon to the left of a tasklist name at https://mail.google.com/tasks/canvas
  2. Select "Delete List", and a popup message will be displayed
    1. If the message says "Do you want to delete the list: xxxxxxxxxxxx", then that is NOT the default list
    2. If the message says "Your default list cannot be deleted", then that is your default list
[2] Occasionally, depending on which import option was used, GTI may rename your default tasklist to "Undeletable default xxxxxxxxx", if the name of an imported tasklist clashes with the name of the default tasklist. This is because Google does not allow the default tasklist to be deleted.

I hope this helps,

Julie
