I find it strange that Windows is not recognising the keyboard and mouse. You could try disabling USB Legacy Support in the BIOS - never know your luck. Also you can try another make of keyboard and mouse.

do you have another unit you can pull the keyboard out of - sounds like a damaged keyboard. Probably caused by an unreported spill, it can cause corrosion on the contacts for the keys or even at the controller.

Thank you for the fast replies!
Tried another keyboard - same problem (and this keyboard works on the other laptop).
Connector looks good. And, if keyboard/mousepad is damaged it wouldnt work in bios and linux I guess

Hello @laurensdewaard, thank you for your post which has received very helpful feedback from the other IT Pros. Yes, you most certainly done some impressive troubleshooting. Additionally, you may want to review this post which includes:

I saw that while keyboard input seemed, blocked, I was still able to communicate between PC and keyboard adjusting volume and opening calculator, for example. Moving forward, I tried uninstalling the devices multiple times and reinstalling them (after system restart), I tried modifying the registry, I tried running several different scans... ZERO luck. Then I thought, "Maybe disable Kaspersky?" Still nothing. I uninstalled, restarted, nothing. Windows troubleshoot was unable to fix my "driver error".

I caved and called Kaspersky - this seemed promising since the rep sounded friendly! Alas, they told me the problem was not due to Kaspersky (I KNOW it was since that was the only significant change I made to my system), they could not help me and that I might need to contact Microsoft (ROFL, no)...

It is related to our filters, which write in registry its values - only Windows OS can be affected. In most cases there was desinfection procedure + patch appliance. The problem will be fixed in next product`s version.

P.S. We have had the problem with keyboard and mouse filters before(in 2016 and after), but it were single cases, which were related to kavremover utility, improperly installation/uninstallation of Kaspersky products, customer`s registry problems etc.

Wow and still having issues!! Not to revive an old thread but I'm having serious issues just after uninstalling Kapersky. Did a re-install same issue lagging mouse ...seriously lagging ..!!!! The computer is now unusable in this state. Congratulations you proved how immature your software really is ...pffft . Now I, not you have to jump through hoops to clean the garbage up. Sorry to say it this way but if your uninstall doesn't work Correctly and Messes up a computer and you admit it's been an issue since 2016 .... really ? That's basic computer software engineering ...no ? So here's what you should be doing ..fixing what you break ...no ?

you are wrong. Such bugs are fixing by our developers quickly(if the root of the problem on our side), they have high or critical priority. It does not mean, that they reproduce on all customers` PCs - there is always some specific scenario for the bug reproduction(desinfection procedure + patch upgrade, some local hardware and software configuration, problems with registry on customer`s PC etc.)

It does not mean, that the Kaspersky is always a culprit - it can be some third-party company software or registry/OS issue on customer`s PC. That is why we are analyzing every such case and providing quick fix, if the root of the problem is Kaspersky product.

My mouse and keyboard work fine in Ubuntu, as well as grub. However, when I boot into Windows 7, I cannot get past the login screen because the mouse and keyboard do not work. The lack of light on my mouse indicates that it's not even on. This happened before when I tried to manually install Ubuntu (partitioning myself with gparted) so I reinstalled and let Ubuntu do everything for me ("Install alongside Windows 7" option) and I thought that fixed the problem because the mouse and keyboard worked twice in a row. Now, however, they have stopped working again. I am using a Logitech K120 keyboard and a Deathadder mouse. Both are plugged into usb 2.0 ports.

I suggest please check your bios setting and make sure the USB legacy is On/Enabled or Auto mode. Hopefully, it will work or rather pls reset your Bios setting and try once on default bootable settings and just make sure USB legacy is on and different motherboard holds different settings check for other USB Settings under configuration tab/menu.Check if any other USB device is connected to your device or not pls unplug them and boot.

If you have recently applied a Windows update, your wireless keyboard may not wake your computer from sleep. Clicking the Magic Mouse should always wake your computer up. The next time you restart, your keyboard should return to normal operation.

I just went through all of this myself and I was FINALLY able to get the re-pairing to work. (I had to borrow a USB keyboard and mouse because we gave all of our old ones away!). I found that persistence was the key. I did about a half dozen repair installs of the bootcamp drivers, and every time I tried pairing the mouse and keyboard it failed on me.

Also, my mouse had difficulty being discoverable. I found that turning it on and off helped--that, and restarting after the mouse install. The keyboard worked immediately after pairing but the mouse would only function after rebooting.

This was all after a winclone restore, from an un-prepped image that I had made made from a previous iMac before it got replaced. Whats weird is the keyboard and mouse worked fine after the initial restore and chkdsk cycle. It wasn't until ater I installed the bootcamp drivers that the two devices quit working. Weird.

1) I have dual boots with Windows 7 + Boot camp on a Macbook pro retina. Win7 was installed early summer last year with Boot Camp 3. All worked well until one day I run software updates, installation of a new application and removal of some unused softwares. I didn't remember what I had done exactly but after restarting Windows, the screen turned to lower resolution (even the highest resolution's quite low), the keyboard backlight turned off and function keys (to adjust light, volume, etc) didn't work. Those problems only appeared on Windows , but not on OSx. It was annoying but not so terrible so I lived with that for many months. Recently I happened to know that Boot camp 5.1 exists, so just made Boot Camp installation on a USB disk and rerun it. All previous problems on Windows were gone and the laptop 's updated with quite up to date drivers. (Please note that Apple provides 2 Boot camp releases on the same day, so you need to select the right one for your Mac depending on the the product line and date)

2) Just few days ago I got a new magic mouse, but failed to make it work on Windows. The setup of this bluetooth mouse on OSx is fast and easy. However, on Windows, adding this device was slow and it asked for a code for pairing with the laptop and the new added mouse just disappeared from the list of bluetooth devices after some minutes.

6. In the notification area of the task bar, right click on Bluetooth icon and select "Add a device". Turn on your mouse. It will show up on screen. Right click on the mouse icon. Select Properties. Select the "Services" tab and check the "Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc". The mouse may disappear from the screen since it's been added.

7. Disable power management for Bluetooth Radio. Open device manager, open Bluetooth Radios and right click on "Apple Bluetooth". Select the "Power Management". Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

I am not sure if I forgot to mention anythings or if I run any redundant steps. Ah, I had the Boot Camp installation on a USB disk at hand, and I run E:\BootCamp\Drivers\Apple\AppleWirelessMouse64.exe more than once during earlier attempts.

HI, i have the same problem.i have a imac and my big problem is i cant return to imac, because when i started the imac only screen is with windows incomplete and my keyboard and mouse dont works, how can i return to mac osx ?

From here I was able to successfully install VMware Tools and all was well. I wrote up this short post in the hopes it may help others with this seemingly simple, but frustrating problem. Let me know if you have other tips!

Just an FYI. Had issue with Windows Server 2019 Essentials on a ESX 6.7 lab server, Dell PE T610, and no mouse was really working very well even after VM Tools was installed. Keyboard was a little weird too. Basically the right mouse click worked, but not the left. Anyways, the USB controller was installed with the VM, so I navigated to the Updates & Security portion of 2019 and ran updates. There were a few, but mainly a cumulative update for the newly released Server 2019. After restart, mouse was working properly again.

Just wanted to drop you a huge THANK YOU. THIS is exactly what has been wrong with my newest VMs. Same issues: wonky mouse and keyboard that simply stopped responding. Installed USB 2.0 hub and bingo: working!

The POST boot process before the OS loads progresses normally and I can use the USB keyboard and USB mouse to change settings in the iDRAC and BIOS setup. I have checked the status of the USB ports in iDRAC and they are all enabled. When Windows Server 2016 operating system starts loading the USB mouse and keyboard both immediately stop working (the IR light on the mouse goes out when Win Server 2016 starts loading). Windows loads to the point of displaying the Ctrl Alt Delete for user login, however the keyboard and mouse do not work in any of the USB ports.
