Dear Sundara,
This is a very good point and I expect that the outcome will vary according to the interpretation of the Entry Clearance officer. I imagine that some ECOs will be generous and give a visa for duration of course + 4 months (this was common practice under the old rules), while others will take a more literal interpretation and allow the visa for duration of course + 2 months. I don't think there is anything particular that you can do to influence this when applying for your visa.
It will be interesting to get some feedback on what the decisions are.
Best wishes,
Sharon

Dear Ms Sharon

Refer to below mail.
I have a specific query on the Student Visa

Understands that Imperial FT MBA course is slightly less than 12 months. According to Tier - 4 Student Visa as per UK Border agency:

Type A: For course less than 12 months, student visa is valid for duration of course + 2 months

Type B: For course of 12 months & above, student visa is valid for duration of course + 4 months

A> Do we fall in category A or category B ?

B> Do you recommend anything specific when we apply for student visa ?

Regards
Sundar

Dear Sundar,

Please find responses to your queries in blue. There are some questions where I don't know the answers so I have copied in Wee in the Business School who may be able to help.

Best wishes,

Alison

Dear Sharon

I am currently reading the requirements of Student Visa applying from India.
As per UK border Agency document "Tier 4 of the Points Based System – Policy Guidance", below clauses are there:

174. If you have official sponsorship that only covers part of your money needed, you must
provide a letter which shows:
• your name;
• the name and contact details of your official financial sponsor;
• the date of the letter;
• the length of your sponsorship;
• the amount of the money they will give you; and
• proof that you have the rest of the money needed.
175. If you are receiving official financial sponsorship from your approved education provider (for example, a scholarship), the approved education provider may choose to include details of the financial sponsorship on the visa letter.

1. Would Imperial like to include the fees we paid (1000 gbp) so far and the scholarship amount (11500 gbp) in the visa letter to avoid questions later ?
As far as I am aware the admissions department at Imperial does not add details of scholarships or deposit payments to its visa letters however since you are applying for the MBA this may be different as it is administered directly by the Business School. Wee - could you confirm whether or not you can add this to the visa letter or whether you will issue separate documents?

Refer to attached paper application form to apply for Student Visa. Can you clarify below on Part 6 ?

2. Which box to click for section 6.4 where we have already paid 1000 GBP. This is not shown in the Visa letter Imperial provided to us nor we have official original receipt .

 Where you have already paid £1000 you should receive a receipt from Imperial College. Again, Wee should be able to confirm what the Business School do to show this (either by receipt or by inclusion on the visa letter)

3. Section 6.13: We still not received the feedback from Imperial on hostel accomodation. I have already applied for one. Shall I leave this one blank for the visa purpose ? What if we are questioned during the Visa Interview on accomodation ?
You can cross 'no' and move straight to section 6.15. It shouldn't make any difference to you visa application either way - under immigration rules you are not required to find and pay for accommodation before you get here.

4. Section 6.16: I trust Imperial College is the official financial sponsor (for the scholarship). In that case, sction 6.18 requires the details of the scholarship to be included in the Visa letter which is not the case so now.

I don't think it's obligatory to have details of the scholarship on the visa letter. You would need either 'an original letter to confirm financial sponsorship' or you would need the same details to be included on the visa letter.  I think Wee will have to confirm how the Business School administer such cases.

Appreciate your early response
Thanks

Regards
Sundar
