I have been used Dr. MacDonald's LEVMW software to fit a simple circuit composed of two ZARC elements. It works very well. The question I have is what is the full name of LEVMW? In the manual it belongs to complex nonlinear least squares (CNLS) fitting program, but there is no exact full name there.

Also, is there any full name for ZARC?

Thank you a lot.

Both LEVMW and ZARC are (full) names of computer programs.  ZARC is a Cole-Cole model to be run at the impedaqnce or complex resistivity level.  These name are not acronyms.

If they are not acronyms, then what is the significance of  calling them with such weird names which have no meanings? There should be some idea behind these names.

Why does it matter?  You should be glad to have a great free program.

Actually, LEVMW can be considered to imply a Levenberg-Marquarnt least-squares fitting engine as constructed by Macdonald, and W stands for Windows.  ZARC is a program that produces a displaced semicircle (arc) when its results are plotted in the complex impedance plane.

R M (perhaps if you try hard you can guess what these letters stand for!)

For sure everyone here is glad to have a great free program. That was not the question. The question was about curiosity, something common to a scientist.

rudeness should not be common, for no one. Less ego.

Thank you, Prof. M. I really appreciate it.

It also very inspiring to learn about its meaning from followed constructive dialogue.

1. LEVMW is the windows version of LEVM program, which is operated in UNIX or DOS.
2. LEV is the name of subroutines of LEVM program.
So, W: windows. M: machine (?). LEV: ? ask to Prof. Macdonald.

LEV probably stands for the Levenberg-Marquardt nonlinear least-squares minimization/optimization algorithm used.
M probably stands for Macdonald.

More likely M for Marquardt, wouldn't you say?

LEVENBERG-MARQUANDT (Macdonald) is the genesis of the name.  The M can stand for either or both (most appropriate).  Good input.
