The NASA Pathways Intern Program provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. 

This position is located in the Office of Strategic Analysis, Communications and Business Development (OSACB). The primary activities of the OSACB include strategy management, internal and external communications, strategic business and partnership development as well as legislative affairs, to achieve integration and coordination essential to Langley's mission success. 

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • You must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.9 or higher on a scale of 4.0.
  • Must work at least 640 hours prior to completion of degree course work.
  • Male applicants must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must complete background investigation.

DUTIES: Back to top This position is part of the NASA Pathways Intern Program which is a formal training program. 

Serve as an assistant to public affairs specialists in writing and the developing, planning and implementing of programs and outreach events that communicate NASA's and Langley Research Center's (LaRC) programs, policies, and result to both NASA and non-NASA people ranging from students to Congressional representatives. Assists in the planning and implementing of LaRC and selected Agency special events, ceremonies, receptions, and dedications. Assists in development of itineraries and serves as or arranges Protocol hosts for events. Coordinates Center-wide logistical support (exhibit space and content, hotels for room blocks, parking passes). Initiates/coordinates production of web information and registration, invitations, brochures, handouts, and announcements. Prepares correspondence and written reports for the Center. Writes articles for Center online and print publications. Analyzes information in terms of the public needs to be met. 

May be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top To be eligible for this position, you must: 
• Be a U.S. citizen; 
• Be at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment; 
• Be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited educational institution; 
• Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution; and 
• Have and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.90 (on a 4.00 scale). 

GS-07: Completion of 4 academic years of study (or all the requirements) for a Bachelor's degree and accepted into a Master's program. 
GS-07 starting salary: $39,179 

GS-09: Completion of 1 academic year of Master's level education. 
GS-09 starting salary: $47,923 

You will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.

OTHER INFORMATION: You must meet eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement. 

You will be considered for the highest grade for which you qualify. 

Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed, student trainee work experience, and acceptable performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed. 

You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment. 

The payment of relocation expenses is not authorized. 

Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements provided they: 
• Successfully completed an academic course of study with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.90 (on a 4.00 scale); 
• Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements; 
• Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and 
• Maintain acceptable performance. 

Eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that NASA will offer conversion.
