About the Job

Intern, Marketing & Market Research
Public Sector/US Government

The NPD Group, founded in 1966, is the leading global provider of consumer and retail market research information for a wide range of industries. We provide critical consumer behavior and point-of-sale (POS) information and industry expertise across more industries than any other market research company.

For the Public Sector, NPD data can be used to both shape public policy and understand its impact. The data NPD gathers consumer behaviors delivers the context needed to understand social and economic trends: what citizens want, what they’re thinking, what really matters to them, and why they do what they do. Public Sector agencies, such as the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, gain access to a rich bank of trended information spanning different economic climates and changing consumer behavior – and the very latest perspectives on what matters to consumers today.

This is a paid, full-time (9am-5pm) summer internship opportunity that begins on June 6th and ends on August 19th. There is potential for this position to become PT or FT come fall.

This position is open to location in the NPD’s Reston, VA office.

Overall Responsibilities:
Develop awareness and credibility for NPD’s US Government business, including:
• Developing and assembling topic specific “white papers” on various public policy issues that can be informed by NPD data
• Creating public policy specific presentation decks or collateral materials to draw the connection between NPD data and possible evaluation and assessment of government programs
• Ensuring distribution of press releases and business updates to government focused publications (e.g. Congressional Quarterly, National Journal, Government Executive)
• Monitoring public policy issues and legislative action and liaising with internal Business Units
• Developing content and material for publication on the Government section of NPD’s website

Background/Competencies:
• Graduate student with an interest in Public Affairs, Governmental Policy, Marketing or Market Research.
• Self-directed
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities
• Experience accurately interpreting data and clearly articulating findings, both in written and verbal formats
• Expert in all MS Office products (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)

The NPD Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer
