RESPONSIBILITY: Participate in the learning & implementation of
services within the Internal Treatment Team at the Adams County Human
Services Department, Children and Family Services Division with the goal
of learning to help families reduce or eliminate the child protection
concerns that brought them to the attention of the county . Participate
in the learning, provision and implementation of all Internal Treatment
Team clinical services and activities which includes, but is not limited
to: Family Team Meeting's (FTM), individual, family and group therapy.
and also includes participation in any future programs and services
developed in the future. Note: This is a temporary, unpaid internship.
The ideal candidate will be able to intern for approximately 20 hours
per week. The term of this position will not exceed one academic year
(August until May) unless renewed by the written authorization of the
County. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Learn about and
participate in the implementation of: * Child Protection focused therapy
(Individual, Couples and Family) * Intensive Family Therapy *
Therapeutic Visitation * Groups – Nurturing Parent & PsychEd
Non–Offending Parents of Victims * Home–Based Therapy –
Preservation/Reunification focused * Relinquishment Counseling * Sex
Abuse Treatment * Adoption Disruption/Preservation * Expedited Treatment
* Family–Team Meeting consults Learn about and participate in the
implementation of the following services: * Providing direct therapeutic
services: Strengths–based assessment, crisis intervention, and safety
planning interventions, as well as individual, group, couple and family
therapy services; with the primary focus/goal in reducing and/or
eliminating child protection concerns. * Conducting indirect therapeutic
services: Identifing mental health and clinical goals and
bio/psycho/social needs of the family; develop treatment plans; document
observations of client (family) progress in contact notes; complete
clinical reports (assessment, monthly, and closure) which address case
status, stage of services and evaluations towards
terminating/transitioning clients out of treatment or to community
resources.
Engaging in collaborative practices: Set and facilitate case
staffings with internal and external collateral professionals to review
clinical goals and assure quality customer relations and service
provision; keep supervisor up to date on case status, issues and
potential concerns; participate in and/or facilitate individual and
group clinical supervision, training and meetings; attend
advisory/decision making forums to coordinate service provision. *
Learning to develop & establish new community partnerships and
maintain those already established that will help families obtain
necessary services, items, supports, etc. that will prevent out of home
placement, prevent social service involvement, or to reunify those
children in out of home placement in a timelier manner. Operate computer
programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Access,
Outlook, Adobe, Trails, Records Management, Provider Tracking System,
Internet and PSSF Database.
Interact professionally and appropriately at all times with agency staff
and all outside organizations/programs/agencies. Communicate clearly
and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish, maintain and
foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those
contacted in the course of work. REQUIREMENTS: * Must be currently
working on pursuing a Master's in Counseling or Mater's in Social Work
(M.S.W.) in a local accredited university and in their second year (or
advanced standing) of education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: * This is a temporary, unpaid internship.
The ideal candidate will be able to intern for approximately 20 hours
per week. The term of this position will not exceed one academic year
(August until May) unless renewed by the written authorization of the
County. * Willingness to intern during extended hours prior to and or
after typical work hours of Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. in order to meet the needs of children and families.
* Utilize your personal vehicle on occasion to get to appointments in
the local community and surrounding areas within Colorado.
