IMMS on Nokia N900?

The only media players that I know of with IMMS support are the ones
listed on the website - XMMS, Beep Media Player, Quod Libet and
Audacious. Do any of these run on the N900?

Wikipedia claims that MPlayer will run on the N900, and that MPlayer
supports XMSS plugins. You may want to try setting up the XMMS plugin
and see how that works.

I recently started a wiki page to track requirements for porting IMMS
to other systems. So far the things I know of are

1. immsd must compile (see the requirements in the INSTALL doc -
http://code.google.com/p/imms/source/browse/trunk/imms/INSTALL )
2. A plugin that can talk to the immsd socket (currently this is done
with unix-style file sockets)

If the N900 meets those requirements its possible that IMMS could be ported.

Have you done any Maemo development? I have never worked with that
platform, but it appears to be based on Debian linux, so that's a good
sign.

Let us know your results if you try running the XMMS plugin on your
N900, or shout if you need help.

A dev on the Rockbox mailing list is working on a port to the Nokia
N900. See this thread for details -

So we might get IMMS on Maemo software by porting IMMS to Rockbox.
There is a ticket for this in the issue tracker already -
http://code.google.com/p/imms/issues/detail?id=7 . I am interested in
the port and may get to in eventually, but volunteers are welcome ;)
