When I initially heard of the PSN outage, I thought it would be no big deal for me. After all, I don't play a lot of multiplayer or online games on that system. For that matter, it's been awhile since I've played any games on the PS3. Most of the time I'm just using it for... oh... right... Netflix.

Why there is any reason for me to log into PSN to use Netflix is beyond me. For some reason it's required, but at the same time content will still load in the background even if I don't log in. I found that out myself on accident today, while trying to cancel the login and get back to the PlayStation menu (a process which in itself is annoyingly painful).

So, is there any way to actually use Netflix on the PS3 without having to log in to PSN? I imagine there might be some means of doing it through rooting the system or other similar hacks. However, I'd much rather avoid this as it is quite probable that Sony will eventually ban such devices from the network. (Though I don't often use it for much other than Netflix, I'd still rather not lose it.) So, I would like an answer that provides the simplest, most "legal" method available if there is one.

If you click cancel when it asks you to log into PSN you will be fine. It usually takes 2 or 3 cancels but I am able to log into netflix just fine. I have heard on some of the older model systems, this will not work but there is a trick. If you clear out your BD-Data folder for some reason or another this seems to take care of it.

The remote controls for the TV are NOT programmable, which means you cannot change the Netflix button to do something else. And yes, I agree that it would be help to have this buttom do something other than load an app that some people will use and others wont.

I noticed that in Kodi, you can use keymap editor addon to assign the sony remote to do specific things like open subtitles, context menu (right click) etc. BUT, the netflix button cant even be reassigned there, if you click it it opens netflix.

do you offer access to Netflix in your listing? If so do you use your own account? Pay for another account? Make them sign in with THEIR account? I have a Netflix account myself and a ROKU I can hook up -- I just today got my first inquiry about Netflix in the unit. I'm wondering how others do it.

I have an additional device account, one for guests. If a guest doesn't have their own account, they can request me to set up access to ours as a guest viewer. Although after 2 years and many bookings, I have had only 2 requests for me to set them up. Most have their own account these days.

We have a guest account for Netflix and Hulu and an old iPhone with nothing else on it signed in for guests to cast to the tv, via google chrome-cast. Old fashioned but does the job at low cost. (We have no tv service.)

Hi Emilia, I'll just be starting to offer Netflix for my guest this coming month and thinking of the same set-up as yours (guest will have access to my account, but with a different user profile). I'd like to ask if you had any instances where your guests have messed with the other profiles on your Netflix account. If yes, what did you do? Or if not, what have you done to prevent this.

@Jose-Feliciano0, just this week I noticed the Grinch was watched on my specific Netflix profile and there were two young children staying in one of my Airbnbs at that time. It doesn't bother me and doesn't happen often. No one has ever messed with my settings or anything like that. I would say it is more frustrating when they log out of my account and into their own. I have to check every time I am turning over the space for a new guest that Netflix is correctly logged into the right account. I would never give my password to a guest so if they get logged out it would require me going over to the apartment to log them back in (luckily, no one has asked me to do that.)

Hi Jose, So I'm a little behind on this thread & I've been looking into all this stuff with Netflix & if you offer up your own account could the guest potentially mess with the other accounts on it. Anyway, their is a way you can lock your other profiles so they would only have access to the one you want them to have..

I have a "guest profile" for Netflix/Hulu/Amazon but it is still my account. The account requires a password to be modified in any way, including ordering movies that are not included in the subscription so there's no way guests could change or charge anything.

The only issue I had once was someone signed in on their own account, then messaged me claiming that someone was watching stuff on their account after they checked out. We didn't have any guests during the time they claimed this was happening and we had logged them out anyways, so I think they had left their account logged in elsewhere.

@Kelly1126 I have the Netflix account that allows for streaming on 4 devices at once. I just leave the account signed in. Same with Amazon: I'm actually not sure how many people can log in at once, but there has never been a conflict, maybe because Amazon Prime is pretty poor in Canada and there isn't much to watch. Some people choose to use their own account, but I do provide mine also so they can use it if they want.

We have Smart TVs and/or Roku's so that guests can access their own accounts. We remind them to sign out when they leave. We've also been using YouTubeTV instead of cable TV in some properties. So far, so good. The savings are great. Good luck with whatever you decide!

There are days when watching "Stranger Things" on Netflix seems like a way better option than doing my literature homework. Or, there are nights I plan to watch just one YouTube video after dinner but then the next thing I know it's two hours later and all I've done is watch clips of Ellen DeGeneres scaring people.

We're surrounded by distractions. The internet is a click away and a friend may be summoned with a text or a shout down the hall. However, in college, we often don't have hours at our disposal to do whatever we please (although sometimes that happens anyway). Time management, while hard to master, is also crucial to succeeding in college because, on top of classes and homework there are also extracurricular activities, lunches with friends, extra lessons, meetings, internships, jobs, etc. Point being, getting distracted often takes a big chunk out of necessary time.

But the school year is young! We still have time to build productive habits. Often I find the biggest hurdle is just getting started on homework and then it is easier to focus. So here are some of the things that have helped me shut down Netflix and pick up the books.

If you don't know what you need to get done, it's a lot harder to be productive. When I get assignments, I like to write them down in a planner. That way, I know exactly what I need to do and when it needs to be done. Then, after everything is written out in front of me, I will make a list of everything I'd like to accomplish for a specific day. For example, if I have a paper due on a Friday, I will write out goals for each night so I make sure I am able to make the deadline.

Set aside a half hour (or whatever length of time you'd like) that you dedicate only to studying. No Facebook, Netflix, Snapping, texting or talking to friends. Make a rule that during that time there will be no internet that is not necessary for homework. When your half hour study session is up, reward yourself with a 5- or 10-minute break before getting back to it.

If you need a little extra nudge when it comes to self-control and staying away from time-sucking sites, there are also apps like SelfControl or Cold Turkey that will block you from using certain websites (or the entire internet) for a period of time.

Study buddies can be a real asset. If you sit across from a friend who is diligently doing their homework, it'll likely be easier to focus on your own. Peer pressure, get-your-homework-done style. Sure, sometimes it is easy to start chatting with your buddy about something other than academics, but if you really try to be as focused as possible, having a partner in crime can be helpful. Even if you don't like studying in the company of others, you and a friend could still make a pact to both be productive and then check in at the end of the day to see how you did.

There comes a time when it's more productive to take a break than it is to keep trudging along. Most brains can't function well 24/7. So, instead of plowing into hour 8 of writing that paper and realizing later that none of what you wrote was actually comprehensible, take a short Netflix break. Take a catnap (or a hibernating bear nap). Stare out your window at the sunset while you make tea or coffee. Go for a run. Whatever floats your boat and gives your brain a break.

An hour of studying for a half hour of free time to read whatever you want. Two hours in the library and you can have dessert for dinner. Little rewards like these are a great way to help get motivated and stay away from distractions that might prevent cookie dough consumption.

Netflix app restricts the screen mirroring when we try to take the remote access of actual Android mobile using Android mirroring tool scrcpy. Hope this is the restriction of the app by design. Is there anyway Appium can help in automating such applications?

Hi, i recently bought Google Nest Hub 2. Although i have link my Netflix account to the Nest Hub, whenever i gives the command 'open Netflix', Netflix will not open but will instead link me to one of my Chromecast device (Xiaomi TV stick). I tried to delete the 'room' and restart everything again. Se problem occurs. Is there anyway i can unlink or delete my Xiaomi TV stick fm Nest Hub? Please advice. Thanks

When I try to log in on the Netflix App via mobile or smart TV, it asks me to sign in and requests that I need to sign up with a new payment plan. If I watch Netflix via Sky Q via the Netflix App, then I am all ok to watch the content.

I have checked my login details on the Sky Q Netflix App and the email for the account is not my usual login email so I am assuming the change in subscription from Netlfix has now reduced my viewing options.
