Weekend of Latino Arts in Motion!
Palmetto Luna Arts presenting its two most successful summer art initiatives
at two locations this weekend.

La MASKara Project pays homage to the long tradition of masks in Latino culture. Masks define us or hide us. They are used for protection, disguise, entertainment or ritual practices and are made from various materials, depending of use. With a mask, you can feel like a warrior, a sacred being, a superhero or an incognito. If you could create your own mask, what would it look like? What colors would you use? What features would you include? Using paper, recycled materials, and more, participants create wearable colorful masks while also learning about Latino arts and culture.
The Eagle Aztec Warrior is an activity to honor and celebrate Aztec Culture. As part of their culture, the Aztecs placed a strong emphasis on power and warfare, therefore, the warrior class was highly valued and respected. As part of this initiative, attendees will have the opportunity to help us complete the wings if the warrior by decorating/coloring one of the feathers of the wings. The result will be a wing made by several feathers, each unique and special since they were completed by members of the community.
Palmetto Luna Arts’ mission is to foster an understanding of the Hispanic/Latino culture by promoting artistic creation and providing opportunities for cultural expression for the community in South Carolina.
