CURTIS MEDIA’S JULIE GARZA WINS TWO
HISPANIC RADIO AWARDS
RALEIGH, NC (September 17, 2009) Julie Garza, program director and midday air personality for WYMY (La Ley 96.9 FM), has been honored for her work by the industry trade publication Monitor Latino and its Web site www.monitorlatino.com at its recent convention in Los Angeles. Garza took home both the “East Coast Program Director of the Year” and “East Coast Personality of the Year” awards in the Regional Mexican radio format. La Ley 96.9 has been serving North Carolina’s growing Latino population since 2003 and reaches almost 100,000 Spanish-speaking listeners each week. The station is owned and operated by Raleigh-based Curtis Media Group.
“It is a great blessing to be recognized for doing what I love most, radio,” said Garza. “I thank Juan Carlos Hidalgo and Monitor Latino for recognizing the success and influence of La Ley 96.9 up and down the East Coast.” Garza is among a small handful of accomplished female program executives in Hispanic Radio and has been regularly cited for her achievements in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Jon Bloom, Vice President and General Manager of La Ley 96.9, says the station is fortunate to have Julie’s leadership. “She’s at the top of her game,” Bloom said of Garza. “Julie could work anywhere from L.A. to Chicago to New York. We’re just happy she’s come to love North Carolina.” Garza joined La Ley 96.9 and Curtis Media in February, 2005, from Amigo Broadcasting Company in Corpus Christi, TX. She is a 1997 graduate of the University of Texas, Austin.
Curtis Media Group (CMG) is North Carolina’s largest independent radio broadcaster with 24 radio stations and more than 70 affiliates reaching in excess of two-million weekly listeners across the state. In addition, CMG operates the North Carolina News Network, Triangle Traffic Network, Cupid.com, TriangleHelpWanted.com, the Southern Farm Network, CMG Southern Sales and State Government Radio.com.
