I wanted to buy the singapore math standard edition. I have a friend which uses my pals are here. What are the differences between them I see that they are both from an other publisher. I want to buy the versions which is challeging enough for my son taking to account he is doing very well for his age. I loved the CWP in the standard editions that my pals are here also this in his program
Singapore schools currently use either New Primary Maths or My Pals are Here-both follow the new syllabus and are approved for use in Singapore. Math in Focus is a version of My Pals are Here for the US market.
The US standards edition is the old syllabus. Having said that, (and this is as someone who used standards 1-2 and NPM 3-5), I don't see much reason to pick NPM (or MPH, for that matter) over US Standards if you're in the USA. It's just plain a lot harder to get the materials without them costing the Earth. (I was able to find sellers, but it wasn't a "just go to Rainbow and order it" situation-it was more like a "Stalk Ebay for a year or more before you need the book" situation).
I will say that my DD enjoyed the NPM more than primary math-she liked the fact that it was more exotic and had a lot of local references to plants, animals, places, and so on, working in different currencies, and simply that there are more animals instead of people, which is why I stuck with NPM after accidentally buying a lot of the wrong books for 3rd grade. But I wouldn't suggest starting with the Singapore versions unless you have a good reason to do so.
Thanks the reason why I wanted the standerd version is because I live in Europe. And the standards are easier to get for me then the US version. Thanks for the info. I still wanted to know what the difference is between PM standard and My Pals are here I hope someone can help me out.....
There are minimal differences between the U.S. and Standards editions. The Standards edition is in color and there are two additional prompts asking students to estimate their answer first, then check for reasonableness. The first example shows regrouping in the hundreds. Problems 1-5 ask students to recall addition with regrouping the ones or tens or hundreds.
My Pals Are Here includes two pages of instruction, another page with directions to a game and a final page exploring regrouping in the hundreds. Problem 5b on page 29 is the only problem that demonstrates regrouping in both the ones and hundreds places, although students are only asked to find the missing ones value in one addend.
Thank you so much for your reply. I have now finally narrowed it down to the primary maths standards version as I have been told this home instructors guide is better than the US version. Or dimensions maths, I have read some good things about this one. My son will do 4a and my daughter 1b. Which version would you start on. Also I have read that they start bar modeling in 3a so will my son miss out on this or should I go back to that level. Thank you for your time.
Hi Cassy thank you for your reply. After doing placement tests my son will do level 3 and my daughter level 1. I am now deciding between Standards version and Dimensions. What do you think. It is so hard to decide. I think my children would like the colour. Thank you and have a beautiful day.

Could you please tell me where to find the solutions for the workbooks for My Pals Math are Here -4b? I just bought the workbooks and it came without solutions. Are the solutions in the Pupil Books? We use the Problem Solving Beyond the Classroom and I love it that detailed solutions are in the back of each book. Thanks, Ed
