1. Separate section boxes for different appended files. Often with a model, i want to show all my piping, but only some of my point cloud. it would be nice to be able to adjust both independently of one another.

2. Ability to add different visualizations to point clouds. both autocad and recap allow you to view point clouds in user customizable formats including intensity, elevation, scan location; but do not output in these styles. I prefer working in intensity view, and having that in navis would be great.

Hi, I would like to suggest adding the ability to snap measurements to grid lines (specifically perpendicular measurements). I'm starting to see more projects using a coordinated Navis model as the principal and legally binding model for trade coordination and it would be helpful to be able to verify that object locations in the model are correct relative to the agreed upon column lines rather than trusting that walls and other model objects are in the correct location.

Can we get an option to export a section box of all models to a separate nwd containing only the model elements contained in the section box? This would help drastically reduce load times when working in specific areas on large projects that take a long time to reload. Another nice option would be the ability to delete objects from the nwd in navisworks while this is not the original intent often times legacy projects only have nwd's that were turned over making it impossible to demo old content from models.

Completely understand the request and we appreciate there are needs for this requirement, we just wont implement IFC export for Navisworks at this time.

However, we are looking at other options such as NWD publish/export which will allow for NWD to be created for subsets of the Navisworks model which could then be consumed by Autodesk Construction Cloud as well as other tools.

If you didn't please do. start at 1.30. Here you can see a windows application. In the three are objects listed from a model. Klik, and the item is highlighted in navisworks. Is this done with the com api? or can this be done with an other api.

Hi Irvin,

When we talk about embedding navisworks in an application, it typically refers to control of API So I did not take a look at video.

This is an interesting video, but I believe it is not a kind of web application that embeds Navisworks, or even any Winform/WPF program. checking closely at the screen (look at the borders), I'd believe it just launches a Navisworks instance (by Automation API). As to clicking the model items in that application, and the corresponding items are highlighted, since it starts the instance by Automation, it hosts the handle of NavisworksApplication (API class), this class can invoke the plugin of Navisworks, while the plugin can do highlighting. In another word: when the model items is clicked, the code gets the object ID of the model items, call a plugin, inputting the IDs, then within the plugin, find the model items by Ids, and highlight them.

So, it would be just a scenario of Automation + Plugin of .NET API. I believe you have known .

I love navisworks and other adesk programs, but continue to hate the ribbon. Toolbars and pulldowns are more compact, easier to find stuff in, and less quirky to pick. Key-ins for common commands, toolbars for less often ones, and pulldowns for command searching by category....

Just wait until everybody is working off touchscreens or vomit-inducing heads up displays, then the UI will really shine. I actually don't mind the ribbon for Navisworks - most of the things are right where I need them at the top level. I just wish they could be customized...

The linear speed bites me now and again, mostly because of unit-shifting between files. Most of our work is in millimeters and I have the linear units set to display in meters, and if anything else is appended/merged it gets converted. But when a separate file is loaded up it sometimes takes that raw value and applies it to the new units (meters or *bleh* inches) the walk speed is either caterpillar-slow or warp-speed fast.

I'm having a weird issue with Navisworks 2018. This is a consistent problem and I cannot think of what might be happening. If you refer to the screenshot, you'll notice that even though I have sectioning enabled, there are still objects beyond the cut plane that are visible, but they are very faint, like a ghosted transparent model. Is this a bug? Or is there some setting or checkbox I'm overlooking? It's very distracting and takes away from the entire reason to section a model. All software is up to date.

I have the same issue, probably caused by the videocard settings or something. you can avoid this by switching off "Screen Space Ambient Occlusion".

You can find this in: Options Editor > Display > Autodesk

Okay so toggling that option makes it go away, but then I don't have my shadows (which really helps with the mind seeing "depth" in the model as you navigate, especially with my clients). This has never been a problem in previous versions. I wonder if my graphics card driver needs updating, at least I feel like I'm getting somewhere.

I have been having the same issue. changed Graphics System (System) from Autodesk to Basic. Solved the problem. Only thing is that it seemed to lose some quality. Might have just been playing on my mind but essentially done some more digging. Turned it back to autodesk and turned "Screen Space Ambient Occlusion" off. problem solved. Same problem though as above though, I like this being on to add "depth" whilst navigating through models and for screenshots to clients etc. I turned this one back on and back came problems. I then tried the "Capping" option. Only thing was that this was turned off. I turned it on and it has solved the problem. Opposite from what the above was. Strange.

The Properties+ plugin allows you to select just the model properties you are interested in, and displays them all together in the same window. So you no longer have to switch between tabs to see the properties you want to. You can also use the plugin to quickly create searches for items with matching properties.

Can't imagine getting anything done anymore without this.

"Find items" and colored properties fields brings some much-needed quiet and calm to most models which are flooded with unwanted properties.

I am also for the support to be prolonged or for all functionalities to be transferred to the new app. Also, it will be handy to be able to select only some specific objects, and then refresh the list of parameters in the "Add Properties".
